IMO it's the Chrysamere. Deals heavy damage, lots of weapon hp, kills most daedra in one hit. Besides it looks better than some daedric weapons (like that ugly broadsword)

A weapon is good when it can inflict rapid damage on the opponent. The faster it can make damage on your enemy, the better it is. So I think the ebony short sword is the best of the regular, non-magic weapons. Its average hit damage multipled by its speed factor is a maximum for the ordinary non-modded weapons.
Not only that, it's lighter than some of the other good weapons.
That dedraic diakatana hits hard, but it's slow, and it's heavy to carry around. I mainly use them for selling to the scamp in the orc's house in Caldera. I have to pad up his money supply first by buying (usually) charged soul-gems. (They're the high-level "currency" in the game; the gold is for the poor guy.) Once the scamp has 200,000 gold, you sell him the diakatana, then sneak around the corner to the bedroll behind the wall--make sure the lady orc doesn't see you--and snooze for 24 hours. When you wake up, sell 5000 gold worth of soul gems, then back to bed, repeat until all soul gems gone and you have much gold to spend at the enchanter for magic flying booties or an invisibility ring--constant effect, of course!
Other than the ebony short sword, I like the soul dagger. Once you have Azura's star, you can repeatedly slay Golden Saints or Ascended Sleepers and use their captured souls to make constant effect magic items. Like a Left Glove of Telekinesis, 100 feet range, useful for stealing stuff while hiding behind a rock some distance away.
But definitely, the ebony short sword is tops for the usual type of butchery you have to do, as long as you keep it fixed up.

wow! what a bunch of fools! the best weapon is Umbra due to the fact that its enchanted, does 50 damage, relativly light, worth like $$$$$$$$ and if u got sumthin with range/levitate its easy to get! The Keening and Sunder take like 4 ever to get cuz u gotta kill so many devils of Dagoth, and get Wrathgaurd (jurryrigged takes a while too...) and that Hammer of Who-ever is sooo heavy (I had it but it was too slow) and with sum glitches I had a dude with the hammer and a full suite of ebony armor...anyway I got this weapon like 3 or 4 hundered hours of gameplay ago (not exageration..) and it just kills all! I killed 5 werewolves in Bloodmoon with it (all with one hit). So thats why its da best!

Okay - early on weapons - Goldbrand and the hammer of wounding from the shop in Caldera
Later on, Chysamere and Sunder (you can kind of tell I like long blades and blunt, huh?)

Well for me, if you want what I find is favorite and good for my character as opposed to best, early on would have to be a daedric wakishka. Those things are just really good for an assasin at level one! Later on, the Fang of Hynnametka. That shock damage is pretty offensive. I also like a Stalhrim War Axe of Soul Taker (soul trap for one second, paralize for one second, 67 points of fire damage for one second). It packs quite a punch, especially when you have azura's star with you.

I gotta agree with Dagger of Symachus, the Daedric Wakizashi is the best wepon in the game IMO, apart from its RAPIDLY depleted condition :veryangry:
ever tried fighting 12 or so goblins with only ONE sword....man that gets messy
