Questions if big mod overhauls are worth it anymore? Seems like just a bunch of patch-work.

Hey guys, so the title kinda says the question I have but I'll mention it here as well. My question is if big overhaul mods like SkyRe etc (can't remember the names of the other ones, tired) are worth it anymore? I've seen a lot of people not running them in their mod lists and I've always thought that they were almost neccessary for a good game, gonna re-install my mods soon so just wanted to know a bit more.

Best regards, Otto.

There is many types of them, each one has it charms.

I play Requiem mainly in my dragonborn runs because I think it fits. low levels are hell. Dragons are crazy hard even with heavy armor, I can't use any skill I don't have a perk in, things costs way more, I die faster and the mod need many patches sometimes.

But,

More spells, more poisons like soul trap poison, more spells, better perks, light armor is best for people who don't want to fight all the time (treasure hunters, hunters, witch hunters etc) high levels in any skills worth it etc.

The patcher have been updated now it takes about 25 min in heavily modded game.

As you can see I have a love and hate thing with it. It the case with those mods, you will hate bunch of things and love others. I love many things in Requiem and hate less.

I personally think PerMa is the best around, many patches, good spells, smooth and works with other mods better. The problem is patcher, it takes ages.

Requiem works like this, low levels you suck, but in high levels you are the boss. It feels so good to own those bandits, look at them run. If you like dark souls, it for you.

There are overhauls that doesn't use patches or you can use a bunch of mods. Like skyirm improved, It very good and I think it suit you http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/61034/?

It depends on your mod order, if it has small fixes and textures no problem, most stuff can be solved with only placing Requiem later in your load order. Here are the things that may not work.

Mods that edits facegendata of races (Rs children.) will change races states, not game breaking.

Quest and land mods will be easy.

Mods that change AI, like deadly dragons, Skytest.

Needs mods (try Ineed.)

Armors may appear in misc while crafting.

Magic spell packs.

Better vampires and mods that change werewolves state.

The beauty of the mod imo, is that start is so slow and scary. Then you master your skills and be good at what you do and things start to go nice for you.

I highly advice that you watch videos about it in the mod page. I'm bad with words.

Azirok, the guy who used to make awesome patches for Rerquiem, has been MIA for quite some time now. At the moment PerMa is probably your best option for a bigger mod list; if you're going Requiem you'll be much more limited in which mods you can add.

There is others modders who make up to date patches.

If you still can find any patches that suit your load order : http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/searchresults/?src_order=4&src_sort=0&src_view=1&src_tab=1&src_name=Requiem&src_language=0&src_showadult=1&page=1&pUp=1

Since it your first time, remove the following mods:

Crafting changing mods.

AI changing mods.

Any dragon mod.

Loot changing mods.

They will not be needed, also Azirok has patches that will still work with old mods.

And yes you can I linked you any anteher mod, it only need patches for Frostfall and RND.

But I also wanna know, is it possible to have just as a good play-through by just using several mods that alter specific areas & not a big overhaul?

Yes, it is possible to have a good play through without using one of the "big overhaul" mods.

All you need are the following:

  • Know what you want to modify.
  • Patience in looking for a mod that does it.
