I don't honestly know what the script does if you start using this mod after already upgrading ED-E

I will experiment later with having both the old ED-E script and the revised scripts running, at this time it was easier to substitute than to try to revise the scripts so that potentially both could run. There were something like 30-40 scripts, quests, references etc. I had to track down and read line by line to make this work.

I will post screenies of the upgrade later. If you went with weapons upgrade, ED-E should pull out what looks like a plasma rifle as a ranged weapon and a machete, vs. the old laser pistol and stun baton.

If you went with armor, the changse are increased HP (2x as many), same weapons, but instead of coming with a bondage/prostitute outfit (the one in the screenies) you get a pre-war lingerie that has upgraded armor stats (you should be able to trade for it and examine it).

Once I really iron out the bugs as much as I can (especially the 'ED-E wait command doesn't work) then I will release the mod as a modder's resource and see what people do with the customizations, but I didn't want there to be 50 versions out there, some with buggy AI, some with not, etc. Hopefully if I can get it done soon (next day or two) and you will be able to upload your own versions of ED-E. Thank you for the kind offer, the eye textures look really cool.

Ok as far as I can tell then I just have a basic ED-E version of her. I had done all of ED-E's quest before using this mod and had upgraded its weapons. But android ED-E just had the prostitute outfit and and regular laser pistol when I got her.

Guess I'll have to wait untill my next playthrough, or maybe restart the quest through console commands somehow. Though that might potentially lead to more weird problems. D:

For the people having problems getting her to initiate dialogue, which version are you using? essential? non essential? redhead? male? etc.

Have you tried the other versions or do they all not work?
I have one base file, of which all other variants uploaded are merely cosmetic variants, so in theory all should not function. There may be conflicts with other mods that may affect companion behavior.

There is a problem with this mod if players have already found and recruited the vanilla ED-E. The new ED-E will show up and you can have both ED-Es with you. However, in doing this, players can no longer open up either vanilla or this mod's ED-E inventory bag.

A suggestion would be to make this mod have the option to have this robot as a separate companion or as an ED-E replacement. I think it would be cool to have this robot as a separate companion with a quest-line available to upgrade the robot's weaponry and abilities.

So the description does recommend you wait to use this until you start a new game.

To separate out ED-E from the old would require that a few dozen scripts get duplicated or separated into 2 different scripts. However, a lot of quests/NPCs that are designed to interact with your companions would not work; you can only choose one script per NPC, for example

Alternatively, a separate ED-E subroutine could be made within each quest, script, etc. for each ED-E. in this manner, that you might be able to do the quest in parallel with both vanilla and my version. However, this is not working well at all in testing for reasons I am having difficulty ascertaining.

The game seems to sometimes confuse which of the 2 your are interacting with even though they each have their own subroutine and a different reference. Doesn't make sense, the game should treat them as separate entities, but I had to abandon that approach.

By not working well, I mean, neither one works.
Tell one to wait, other one waits. Tell one to follow, zone, and the other one is in the room with you.

The reason this is not as simple as other companion replacers is that ED-E is not an NPC class. It is a creature class. As such, it doesn't have a lot of the attributes the humans do, such as tag skills, classes, etc. Also, the creature models are 'all in one' as opposed to the npc's, which have separate head, head texture, body, body texture, etc. I tried that route, and there was no way to get ED-E to have a texture at all (hollow eyes, flashes from blinding white to transparent to black depending on the lighting) unless I wanted to learn how to use nifskope blender etc. So ED-E is not fully replaced in my mod; the scripts are just told to work with a different item.

Problem with a save game, is that some variables and probably some routines are saved and running, but sort of lost in space/orphaned, and it's causing problems with games in which people already have ED-E.

For example, I played a game up to the point I meet vanilla ED-E. I cheated, soon as i left doc's house, consoled coc primmnashresidence, and interacted with ED-E.

Then I saved, loaded up my mod. Interacted with the female ED-E, that worked fine.

In my mod, there are no references at all to vanilla ED-E. I can't interact with him at all. Made sense to me. Then I destroyed vanilla ED-E to see what would happen.

Told me I failed mission ED-E my love. Haven't played far enough to see if I can complete it with the modded ED-E from that point on.

In game, if you are curious, type in console: coc hooverdam, and you will see what I mean.

Updated.

Believe I have fixed the problem with the wait command. EDE will stay put until ordered, guard mode, base model alertly scanning for danger. Upgraded models have other idles.

Versions include:
Essential ED-E
ED-E only vanilla resources, no Ling's or anything else for that matter required.
Ed-E with different eyes than the blue in blue Fremen look (set Essential).

Essential version missing from Update.

Testing both versions uploaded today (13:01 version, and 13:50 updated non-essential), I can get her to wait, but I can't get her to follow again.

The command wheel shows up, I click to enable 'Follow Me' and the graphic looks right; I leave the menu and she won't follow. Go back into menu and it is set back to 'Wait'. Same thing happens if I try to speak with her to set Wait/Follow.

I've tested her using a fresh game each time.

I think I figured out why she disappears sometimes:
If she is not close to me when I go through a doorway that leads outdoors -> indoors, then when we show up inside after the loading screen, she will run up to me from way back in the room (as if she were already waiting inside at the other end of the room).

If she is not close to me when I go inside -> outside, she will warp all the way to Black Mountain when I emerge from the loading screen. It seems as if she has disappeared, but I use the player.moveto command and warp myself to her location.

However, if I make sure she's right next to me when I go through a doorway (either direction outside <-> inside), then everything works just fine.

Well, I got her to follow. Found an errant clicked box that seemed to be causing the problem.

New problem: now she won't wait.

If you start with a wait command, she waits. Then you tell her to follow. She follows. Then you tell her to wait. And she's stuck on you like a cheap coat.
