Modding & Bethesda Games

Dear Nexus mods Users

I simply ask the question

Why are Bethesda games the most modded in the community?

1) Are they simply the best games on the market and as such the most popular to mod?

2) Are the games inherently broken when sold and therefore need modding to remedy this?

3) Are the toolsets provided to mod these games easy to work with, meaning modders tend to stick to these games instead of others?

They're easy to mod, the community has been about a long time and let's be honest, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and certainly Skyrim need mods, Bethesda are great at creating worlds but they phone everything else in, mods correct that.

Unlike most game companies, Beth has been very good about providing a FREE working SDK in a reasonable time. And, again unlike many, the SDK is not crippled. Beth actually encourages modding their games, and has been known to use good ideas from mods in their subsequent games. This has led to a very active mod community that keeps mods coming for years after most other games have died out. We still see new mods for Morrowind here and that means people are still playing this Beth classic.

Beth discovered with Morrowind, that NOTHING adds to the longevity of a game, like the ability to mod it, and a decent tool to do it with. Morrowind is still going along quite well, and Beth is still making money from sales. (steam, gog, etc. I haven't seen a disc version in the stores for quite some time though.) Nothing like still making money from a game, 14 years after its release. :D

You can still buy the disks online, they're preferable because unlike the stream version they include the construction set, I got a new copy from Amazon.
