Lecturer Vezzati spoke then. She was gracefully beautiful, young looking but much older than she looked. “Somebody has transplanted these very ancient type genetically engineered plants, when doing so is quite tricky. The traces, on the ground, indicate some kind of humanoids have been collecting food, along with animals.”

Dorothy nodded rapidly this time. “Animans are here and most are good, some are very good and some are bad or even very bad. We should be friendly to them; we can help them and they can help us. Grandmother told me that they have not approached because they are wary of the unlifen, the nombies and the damphirs, because you are new to them.”

It was with some difficulty that the group got the animans to come out of hiding to learn that the three damphirs and the nombies were friendly. Not only that but the nombies were soon proving to be useful to the local animan clan as their great strength was used to build up defences around the local animan clan settlement. Why the defences; because bizarre marauders were in the area of a kind known as reavers. They were amongst the most feared of raiders, raiding from another island of what was a part of a mysterious archipelago of many of them.

The original camp ground was abandoned and the lifeboats were hidden away as much as was possible. Everything else, even such as wooden lifeboat oars, were taken to the animans' settlement. The First Mate was not so pleased with trusting the animal-human hybrids but he could see that the alliance was a good idea against the threat that the animans had described with fear in their voices, even the bigger tougher kinds.

Reavers, strangely beautiful and disturbing, ran through the forest of the big island, heading roughly towards the lagoon and a most favoured area of local beach combing activity by animans and others. Local peoples were quite independent, and rebels were fairly active in the area, but the transmutated reavers were extremely deadly and knew it. In strange immodest steel studded leather armour, and webbing of pouch dotted belts, they 'sensed' being glimpsed by local animans, but did not care; they were there to carry out a mission given to them by their secret lords who they feared as much as others feared them.

The formation, of two platoons, slowed and all prepared for trouble. Sword-fighters, archers, blade-spearers and gunners had their own weapons, the gunners using pairs of oversized revolver-pistols or a single bigger lever-action rifle. Swords, two per fighter, arrows and blade-spears glittered with exotic energies.

Mostly women, the reavers took their bearings, some crouching to sniff at the ground while most searched for traces, clues, with their sharp eyes.

They found the tracks of the huge humanoid, though skilful attempts at been made to cover them up, moving along with many animans of smaller stature, even those who were quite big by animan terms. Their lords, of one of the newer factions, had gained information on strangers coming onto the islands; as usual they did not share the sources of that information with the reavers.

With great caution the reavers followed the tracks but back tracked them towards the beach. Again they asked no questions of this order, did not wonder why they did not go after the hulking creature and its animan companions.

Zero 3.1[3]{12}

The things falling from space, the comet like projectiles, were coming from a great space projectile. Watchguardia telescopes began to pick it up more clearly as it approached the Earth and scientists began to speculate whether it was a spaceship of some kind. If it was it was clearly of very great size and this itself was of concern as it was feared that such a vessel might crash into the Earth.

It was decided to accelerate secret projects to do with rocketships, launch-cannons and antigravity spheres along with other such ideas. Atomic rocketships were already being experimented with in Free Alliance nations. The British Imperials were working on antigravity drives. The United Citystates of America were doing the same with space-cannons to shoot water, air and other such basic supplies into orbit to assist in space exploration. It was whispered that the Soviets were trying to back engineer their own vessels from a captured flying-saucer, a UFO.

So far the green glimmering mists had proven to be no real problem. As for the comet-projectiles, so far they had all crashed into deep ocean water, none coming anywhere near land except, perhaps, uncharted islands of which there were a few.

The grey saucer shot through the sky, alien and almost lost in the dark clouds. As it moved, with only a soft humming whistle sound, it staid ahead of three delta sleek rocketplanes chasing it. They were black machines, top secret experimental, with no identification marks. They moved with gee forces that no human pilots could have dealt with but they were not human; they were damphirs.

The Greynari saucer vanished with a sparkling shimmer. It had found a transdimensional weakness and had created a temporary rift so as to escape from its pursuers. Not that it mattered for the idea had been to chase the intruder away, not to destroy it.

With a long curving motion, the rocketplanes reduced speed to what was slow by their standards and then headed off back to their secret base. The mission had been successful in more ways than one and, thankfully, none of the rocketplanes had exploded.

Moving over the Pacific Ocean, where the saucer had vanished, they headed towards the United States of America. The pilots failed to spot the thing floating in the waters far below and, if they had, they would have easily mistaken it for a whale because only part of its long body was showing.

One 9.1[10]{13}

When the twisted hybrid tigerchimps attacked Captain ManMonster, led by a great distorted version of them twice the size of any of its followers, he found himself battling the great beast. Neither it or its followers showed any form of mercy or expected any. The human-tiger-chimp combinations came mostly with machetes, wooden clubs, wooden spears and a sprinkling of guns; the guns were single barrelled break open shotguns and basic single shot bolt-action rifles. The attacks all bore webbing of pouch dotted belts, also with sheaved knives and other items, bearing the same odd emblem.

The former captain, despite his new name, was glad that he was such an experienced fighter even as he hurled the giant tigerchimp through the air. Clearly the leader, of the tigerchimps, was not used to fighting a skilled opponent but only taking on big, strong, animans in basic duels of strength and endurance.

They fought back, and fourth, with the fiercer animans taking on the other tigerchimps in savage close order fighting. It turned out that the guns had no ammo, the tigerchimps using them as clumsy clubs. With Captain ManMonster leading them, the animans seemed to have gained greater resolution and courage or so he suspected. The tigerchimps appeared to be taken by surprise, perhaps having never met that kind of resistance before.

The big enemy leader was thrown and bounced off a palm tree, hitting the ground both hard and awkwardly. Clambering to his feet, he was clearly not as confident as he had been. The captain sensed he was worried, fearful and also confused, as if such feelings were new to him. Perhaps he had never suffered defeat before or at least not for a long time.

Then the enemy were retreating, taking their wounded with them. The limping monster tigerchimp led them away towards some unknown destination. In a very short time they were gone, proving to be fast and efficient in moving through the forest. Indeed they would have been a greater threat if over confidence had not blunted their skills.

It was a minor miracle that none were killed, neither attackers or defenders. Then out came the amazing regenerative healing pastes made from healopods from particular bushpod bushes. The substance was far more effective than anything that the human world could offer except for things he had heard whispers of.

Captain ManMonster held a meeting of animan leaders, of cat-humans, of dog-humans, of chimp-humans and others, even the smaller ones. As far as he was concerned even they had a special role to play in the future defence of what had become his people. What he feared was that the tigerchimps would return, or worse, that a bigger threat would come instead. For the tigerchimps had not been the great threat that he was still psychic-sensing to be too close at hand.

They had captured two machetes, two rifles, and one shotgun, from the tigerchimps and he wondered what he could do with them, if anything.

Robinson Crusoe sat on the banks of a moderate sized pool where the tentaculon creature was resting in the waters very close to him. Robinson was centuries old and had experienced much of strange nature so even the aquatic creature did not shock him. Instead he scratched its back lightly with a rake that he had salvaged from a reef trapped ship a long long time ago.

A small bird shot through the air overhead. Ants trailed through the grass near his booted feet. His strange ornamental rifle, that looked something like a musket but was not, was close at hand for that was a dangerous area even for such as himself.

GoooshUuGarl spoke with a little difficulty and with a strange lightly grating voice. "Memories are largely scattered to the currents of time. Tentacles are turned unnatural or taken by madness except for a few like myself. Well, hopefully so. Hopefully the undead ones perished in the strange salt water oceans of this world."

Robinson had experienced the arrival of other immortals, long after he had survived a ship wreck along with fifteen mortal humans and some animals. Descendants of those humans, and animals, survived in a small underground colony allied to the Oracle and her people. Robinson normally lived there but seer dreams had drawn him to that area to meet GoooshUuGarl, to help save the creature and to learn much of value. Though a powerful deep psychic, the Oracle had assured him the seer dreams had not come from him.

The creature went on, with reluctance or so the mature looking man 'sensed'. "We thought to escape a dying red world, an alternate to the Mars that you see in your skies. Our atmosphere was escaping, our oceans were vanishing, life was dying, all thanks to a terrible war fought between ourselves and two other species. Too late did peace come. We cooperated enough, though with reluctance, to build three great ark ships and three pathfinder ships to lead them. Vague memories are all that I have...."

Then the creature was sleeping, the sleep of the exhausted, even as the immortal went on scratching 'her-his' back and guarding 'her-him'.

One 10.1[11]{14}

Just as Captain ManMonster's people had gained access to bushpod bushes, so of course had the other group's new allies. The bushpod bushes ran in a curving line that followed the shoreline, of the big lagoon, at a distance. It seemed to go from metallic stone artefact to artefact, as if this had some importance to the exotic plants' survival. Captain ManMonster's people had to travel further than did the others and often gained bushpods indirectly through trade with peoples who dwelt closer to the lagoon; these were not all animans.

A group of animans, a mixture of many types as usual, were seminomadic traders and it was they who brought a message from Captain ManMonster to the other group; the one at the settlement. Five donkeys carried fairly large packs filled with tradegoods crafted by animan, and other, artisans. Yet there were also a few odd items such as a telescope, a lightly scratched phonograph record and some boxcans of a processed meat-vegtable cheese like stuff. ManMonster assumed, at first, they came from elsewhere but the animans spoke of manufacturing, food processing, being done in the largely mysterious Utopian Heartland of the largest island of the archipelago. Yes, the archipelago was named the Utopian Isles.

The captain wanted to meet with the First Mate, a very old and close friend of his. In the message assured the others, from the tramp-steamer, that being on the island had mollified his rages, making his berserker side controllable. He had no idea why this was.

The First Mate sat on a wooden stool, of local make, and verified the hand writing though it was a little clumsier than normal. That was clearly because of the captain's clumsier hands and poorer writing implements. Having recently shaved, carefully with a local made knife, he clearly felt better. The contact from the captain also cheered him up.

He looked up at the gathering of some others there. The triplets were there along with the small girl, her dog, some cats, two nombies, rats, the professor, his daughter, and the doctor plus some local animan village elders. Others were sleeping or doing chores or being busy in other ways.

"Its his writing, though messier than even his typical scrawl, and written in the way that he would have done. It took some carefully translating, which I gained only with long practice at deciphering the captain's writing. He helped his people, as he calls them, fight off a big group of nasty creatures called tigerchimps. Seems that those, that are called the masters, send the tigerchimps to keep locals frightened, down trodden, in smaller numbers and disorganising so they do not threaten the Lords of Utopia. The tigerchimps carry out looting, rape, destruction but mostly murder against locals. Yet the tigerchimps have other duties such as dealing with outlanders, rebels and other threats including zombies and reavers."

Outlanders!? Rebels!? Zombies!? Reavers!? Other threats!?

The professor spoke out. "The tigerchimp operations seem to be rather brutal, and chaotic, in nature."

Jataka, a female chimp-human village elder, spoke out. "It was not always this way for the immortals, that ruled the Utopian Isles, kept everything well organised and treated all with fairness. Then green comet things fell from the sky, crashing into islands and seas of the archipelago. All changed after that! It is said that madness fell upon the immortals and all of the islands. It is but one story amongst many and yet it is a common one. There is more but it is all very scary. I will show you the story as recorded in a very special way hidden away from every day life."

And so she did!

Tigerchimps gathered at a place where a train station stood with its crumbling buildings and rusting locomotive, carriages and railway line. It was a fairly small train, having not had much to do but carry some cargo and a few local folk. Yet it had been important to island society. Back then tigerchimps had been responsible for protecting people, not terrifying them, but few had gone to that island.

Overgrowth, of the surrounding jungle, helped conceal it. Monkeys were active in the trees and so were birds along with other creatures. Hidden there were also three rebel scouts, being small monkeymans.

The abandoned station had become their local base of operations where the massive tigerchimp had his throne and where there were some exotic devices. The glistening living mechanisms were disturbing to use, to many including the tigerchimps, but did have their purpose.

With some difficulty, a tigerchimp with empathic-telepathic abilities, used a gruesome looking cap device to report to one faction of the Lords. Those were survivors of the original immortals such as Lord Frankenstein who had a rogue damphir daughter known as the Oracle. After delivering the message the tigerchimp suffered sharp head pains and was given strong medicines before he lay down and slept deeply.

The report had been given on Captain ManMonster and the way he had helped to hurl back the tigerchimps, to hurt them, in a way not done since the actual crisis was happening.

One 11.1[12]{15}

Jataka, the chimpman woman, led them into a cave system below the settlement, passed where stores were kept and then they were in the Chambers of Remembering. The ochre paintings, on the wall, were impressive and informative as art. They showed impressions of a happier life before the things fell from the sky, the time of the falling things, and afterwards the age of chaos; after that the chaos eased but life had become tougher for the animans, and other folk, of the area. Since the 'Falling Sky' communications had become much more difficult but reports had come from other parts of the Utopian Isles that life was worsened for most. No information had come from the Heartlands.

There was a big stack of skulls, from the Time of Chaos, when many animans had turned into zombies only to be killed off by their own kind. A green glimmering mist had come, had caused the undeaths, and then had been destroyed. Except that the locals did not know who, or how, it had been done. That was when the first tigerchimps had come to the local islands, bringing their berserker rage and causing many deaths. They had been driven off, killed off, with great effort and many losses.

During the Time of Chaos the old trade activity had weakened and many prized tradegoods had dwindled in number and decreased in quality. One chamber had some musket-rifles, a damaged phonograph, a winder-telephone and some cable, a stack of books, some postcards, a slightly damaged wooden frame with an oil painting and a few other such items.

Yet another chamber held carefully stored scrolls with writing and some basic illustrations; these were histories, and other accounts, of the local animan people since the Age of Chaos had ended. The same cave had other stored items as related to those records such as samples of cottage industry items manufactured since that time; there were bows, arrows, baskets, various tools, clothing and other items. Many were at least partly made from certain kinds of bushpods. There were wooden carvings of individuals and carved reliefs of some events. It turned out that there had been some animans who had become living monsters, or unlifen, but they had been driven away by the unchanged animans; it had been out of fear, anger, and was not something that current animans were proud of.

It was in that cave chamber that Jataka confessed a secret known only by a very few local animans.

An ancient alien artefact, of metallic stone and glowing metallic crystal materials, went from semiactive to active. Crystal formations glowed brighter and a soft thrumming noise could be heard though it was only moderately loud. The formation of cubes, globes and cones was melded to a metallic stone wall, of a large glowcavern, and in that wall were also metallic stone alcoves.

For the moment nothing more happened!

Zero 4.1[4]{16}

Reluctantly, the League of Nations Security Council admitted to the world that a 'things had fallen' from the sky in the past but the incidents had been few, and far, between. Yet there had been a few of special events, of hard enough impact on humanity, for special organisations and long term projects to be established. Some of these were as follows:

In 2001BC a green mist had fallen upon a bronze age citystate of Caribbean America, after the record sighting of a comet-projectile falling into close by ocean waters by a fishing vessel. The relatively advanced civilisation, of Tazanea, was wiped out except for some survivors who continued on with a more primitive existence.

In 783DC a large European island settlement, of the Romanard Empire, had been established in the Atlantic Ocean. A comet-projectile had struck the ocean only about 20 kilometres from it and a green glimmering mist had struck the island. By the time other Romanard vessels came to the island, there remained only a few shambling zombies and some immune survivors plus some unlifen entities. The glimmering mist was gone, the zombies were dying with out its supportive existence. The Romanards, in the ships, refused to allow any survivors to come on board but they did unload equipment and supplies before returning to the main empire. After that the existence of the island colony became an imperial secret with citizens being banned from even 'remembering that it had existed'; that is except for a very few.

In 1011AD an African coastal island civilisation, name lost, had experienced an invasion of glimmering mist followed by one of glowing white mist. The civilisation was 'vanished' by the time people found it after the event, including returning traders of the island. In fear the island was abandoned, was made forbidden by other African civilisations.

In 1405AD a large fleet of Holy Crusader vessels, on their way to the Middle East, was travelling the Mediterranean when it vanished. There were on going whispers of an investigation, by the Knights Templar, discovering some interesting findings but nothing was made public.

In 1854AD a squadron of British steam-sail gunboats encountered, off the north west coast of Africa, a green glimmering mist and in it a mixture of sailing vessels full of zombies, lesser ghouls and even less lichs. Withdrawing smartly away from the mist, the vessels began to bombard the undead filled vessels. Many were sunk, destroying the undead in them. During this time a vessel came out of the mist with immunes and unlifen. The survivors were put under 'protective custody' and sent to the British Imperial Capital of London. The mist vanished and the undead supposedly perished with out it.

Zero 4a

Some members of Extraordinary League of Champions were busy in the great museum, library, gallery, study like chamber. Ramps led up to large mezzanine decks while walls were full of shelves of books, most being old tomes or reproduced ones, the originals being carefully preserved in archives.

Along with the small number of ELC immortals, in that chamber, were mortals such as clerks, specialists, armoured armed security guards, servitors, techies and others. While not a huge number, they easily outnumbered the immortals.

There were carefully display cased artefacts from a wide range of bizarre incidents, mysteries and more standard sources. An experimental electric gattling-gun was next to a skull of a dinosaur humanoid that was next to a fragment of zombie bone and so forth.

Immortal Sherlock Holmes was very carefully reading a newly discovered ancient scroll. With him was another immortal being Susanna Tyrone, a genius who gained much through the ELC that she could not through normal society. Immortal Doctor Watson was examining another new find, a scroll showing some unusual biological diagrams of what could easily be a dissected zombie. Mortals were assisting them.

Others were going over reports from the expeditionary taskforce seeking to track down the mysterious Islands of Mist, also known as the Utopian Isles and many other names. Yes, the ELC could send, and receive, messages from the Oracle at the islands, along with other trusted ones, but somehow the islands still had to be physically discovered 'again'. Why this was so was a complicated, often strange, history.

The distinguished Professor Quartermass was there along with the elegantly beautiful Lady Jekyll, the female counter part to the monstrous male Mr Hyde. The table before them was an almost neat pattern of charts, photographs, notes, some odd artefacts of small size and other items. There were even two stereoscopic viewers along with stereoscopic double pictures. Mortals were also assisting those two immortals.

There was much discussion taking place but new information was badly needed.

One 12.1[13]{16}

Unlifen animans moved around them, some as damphirs and nombies, as they lived their underground life in a great glowcrystal lit, and warmed, cavern that stretched out into the distance. There were animans who had become transformed into bigger, more powerful, creatures but they were outnumbered by those who had become unlifen. Amongst them lived some unchanged animans, immunes who would not be effected by the infestation.

The First Mate studied the stone block, timber, structures and was obviously impressed with how well designed, and made, they were. There was a fair sized underground river running through the cavern and there was a stone, and wooden, bridge crossing the narrowest part of it in the glowcavern.

He spoke. "It is a well established settlement by why the extra houses, if they are houses?"

Jataka responded. "It is our plan that we would show the other animans, in the settlement above, that the folks down here are far from a threat but have made secure space for them to live. There are plants growing near the river, at its shorelines and fish in its waters. Sometimes useful things float down the river but also awful things; thankfully the awful things come less often than do the useful things."

The damphir triplets examined the settlement, the river area and where guards were stationed at various points; this included the place where the river flowed down into the cavern from a tunnel mouth that was above the general cavern floor.

The professor spoke. "It would be efficient for our group to live down here. The special caves are close enough for my brilliant daughter, and I, to examine them easily. The environment here is quite amazing, quite amazing! We have experienced such places before. All of them are well hidden. Jataka, what do you mean by 'good things' and 'terrible things'?"

The wood, used in buildings and the bridge, had come floating down the river as logs. Sometimes there were damaged wooden barrels. Once there had been a wooden crate full of bits of iron and another time a smaller crate partly full of bushpods; luckily bushpods preserved well as long as their shells were intact.

Drowned, crumbling, bodies came down the river; most were either corpses or destroyed zombies that had notable differences from each other. While most of them were dead animans, or oddities such as deceased tigerchimps, some were dead humans. Evidence showed that most of them had been killed brutally. Then there were the grotesque bodies that were malformed, each in its own way, and that 'jittered' though not alive. They were, in some ways, like zombies but different in others. The locals had totally destroyed the bodies.

The two immortals had nothing to examine but what they heard from the locals was enough to concern them deeply. Then there were sketches, written notes and other evidence that they examined. The two became even more concerned.

It was decided that the group would move underground to the glowcavern settlement and that it was time that all surface living animans were told the truth. Perhaps this was because the newcomers, adding to the glowcavern population, bolstered its courage.

The damphir triplets hauled to the shore, of the glowcavern river, a jittering corpse and soon the two immortals, father and daughter, were carefully examining it. The older pair of damphirs joined in for both were retired medical doctors; he had been involved in criminal forensics and she had been involved in medical research; both had carried out many autopsies and not just on human bodies.

Done with only basic resources, the examination soon became a careful dissection; it was a bizarre procedure given that the body had to be tied down to the wooden table because of its constant jittering. What they found was to be very surprising and disturbing.

The local animans were only happy when the body was totally destroyed; this process was also done most carefully thanks to what was found inside the body; that was thousands of tiny undead creatures of a most unnatural kind.

One 13.1[14]{17}

Captain ManMonster had expected reavers to attack his new home but instead there came a glimmering green mist dotted with shambling zombies; the glimmering mist came at night, from the direction of the ocean that was not too far distant from the settlement. The local animans set alight large bowls full of special oiled wooden f@&#!ts and the smoke held back the mist; the smoke stank of a strange sourness. As zombies came shambling, quickly, out of the mist it appeared that most were naked except for ugly leathery skin but that small a minority still had some manufactured items on their bodies such as odd zip fronted jumpsuits and strange plastic bracelets. Guided by the glimmering mist, and supported by it, the zombies often used crude weapons though awkwardly so. The zombies had softly glimmering translucent fangs and retractable claws of the same bizarre nature.

The animans sent a shower of arrows up into the air, that fell down upon the first wave of zombies and killed many of them. Other arrows were shot straight at the zombies, striking into heads and solar plexuses to kill them instantly. Captain ManMonster began fighting zombies at closer quarter, smashing heads and bashing torsos. He used a big club weapon that animan artisans had made for him, it being well designed and made to fit his needs.

Animans began to fight zombies closer up, often using powerful crossbows but more often hand weapons. Blow-pipes were used cleverly to pierce zombie eyes with blow-darts.

An animan warrior fell, screaming, and was dragged away but an animan archer mercy killed him before the warrior could suffer a more terrible fate.

A tiger animan dropped a zombie and was clubbed down by another but she managed to get up to kill that second undead thing.

The fighting became fiercer, more desperate, as the undead humanoids pushed closer to the settlements defensive walls. These had been upgraded, thanks to the influence of the former tramp-steamer captain, and all of the settlement defenders were soon grateful for that. Zombies fell into stake filled ditches and died there as their head and-or solar plexuses were pierced through.

Abruptly the mist was going, was withdrawing, taking surviving zombies with it.

A battle had been won but there would be more to come and not just against the glimmering mists and the undead.

Captain ManMonster had strange items gathered up from destroyed zombies. There were the strange plastic bracelets with black squares. There were the odd feeling jumpsuits with what were some kind of odd zippers running down their fronts and also unusual pocket-pouches. There was a silvery gun with a crystal lens instead of an opening at the end of a barrel. Underneath the jumpsuits were cotton underclothes indicating zombies had been both men and women.

Other devices were found and were a mixture of known and unknown, some being totally mysterious to him. They were also new to the local animans who had fought zombies before but never with such items linked with them.

When zombie bodies were destroyed, by the animans, things were discovered that had been inside those bodies. It was becoming clear that they were of technologies far more advanced than anything Captain ManMonster had ever experienced; they did sound some what like those exotic ones used to end the Great War.

One 14.1[15]{18}

The British Imperial Special Security Agency airship was joined by a smaller Watchguardia airship, that was still fairly large, and the two collectively did another sweep of the area where the tramp-steamer sank. Which was where the two vessels, being fairly close to each other, both spotted the great metallic stone structure that rose out of water where there had only been open waters before. The structure was not hard to miss, being massive with huge globular substructure merging into the great cubic tower.

This was an astounding event for all known artefacts, of such nature, were usually hidden underground and there were relatively few of them. Only one had been found, deep on the ocean floor of the Pacific, but its location had been lost due to unfortunate circumstances. The diving expedition ship, that had found the location, had vanished after sending a scrambled radio message to the nearest ships. The message had contained no clear map coordinates.

At the top of the great cubic tower was a flat square area surrounded by a wall. The square area was easily big enough to take both airships. Yet it was decided that no such landing would be risked until the BISSA ships arrived, which would be in about five hours. Radio communications, with the command vessel of that fleet, was instigated and valuable information was exchanged. The British Imperial Airnavy had dispatched two general purpose airships to assist the expedition, including two platoons of soldiers, being elite British Imperial Paratroopers.

Despite having many observers in action, neither airship spotted the strange periscope poking up out of the ocean that appeared to be made of a kind of glistening, translucent, hardened jelly like substance. It's scope end was panning side to side and tilting up and down as it did so. It moved easily with the ocean waves that were of moderate roughness.

Captain Nemo, stood in the bridge cabin of the great super-submarine the NSS Nautilus that moved with amazing speed, grace and quietness for a 'boat' of its kind. Nemo was amused that naval people insisted that any submarine be called a boat despite that there were a few huge examples around the world, at least two being much bigger than his own. Handsome and charismatic, Nemo was one of those who preferred to call super sized submarines 'ships'. Right now he was more focused on the strange blips that his power submarine sensors, sonar and scanners were showing up.

He spoke to the crew, who were carefully harnessed into special armoured chairs as he was, in that big sophisticated cabin. "We have run into three more of those comet-projectile creatures. We must be careful to not antagonise them. The other two blips appear to be those of whales, one bigger than the other. The five appear to be heading in a formation and if I am not mistaken the tentacle creatures seem to be protective of the whales; question is, along with many unanswered questions, what are they protecting the whales from?"

No answers were forth coming at that moment. Nemo made a decision as the huge, sleek, super-submarine slowed and began to carefully follow the five creatures at a distance. He wanted to know where they were going and why they were heading deeper into a zone of many disappearances and other mysteries.

Zero 5.1[5]{19}

The League of Nations Aerospace Agency atomic rocketship, the LNASA Lunar Pathfinder, came into low orbit above the Moon. From there astronauts did closer telescopic sweeps of the Lunar Surface, searched for life with N-ray sensors, took movies and photographs, took basic video recordings and charted what they could as detailed as they could.

The existence of the green, blue, brown Craterlands had been confirmed by powerful telescopes for many decades. Satellites, probes, and surface wheeled remotes had done more to confirm their existence, despite the cynicism of a few people including so called experts. The wheeled remotes had reached the top of two Craterland crater walls only to be halted by some kind of semitransparent domes that covered those same Craterlands. No efforts had been made to get through the domes but partly successful attempts were made to record what was going on inside.

Transmissions, of video feeds, had showed glimpses of life; it appeared to be flora and fauna with some humanoid activity.

Then, with great rapidity, wheeled remotes across the visible Lunar Surface had been attacked and ceased to transmit signals. The same had happened to unmoving surface probes.

None of the remotes, or stationary probes, were found though the rocketship viewed the positions where they had been attacked. With no atmosphere to interfere, the details of the ground were easier to see and record visually. Odd combinations of tracks were found, along with other traces, showing that the attacked machines had been taken away. It had been done by some kind of wheeled vehicles. The following of a set of tracks led to them vanishing at the edge of a rising cliff face. Another trail vanished into an area of great, up thrusting, rock outcrops. None led directly towards Craterlands but all led generally in such directions but never reached them.

The rocketship kept orbiting Luna!

Zero 5a

The LNASA Watchguardia Spacestation Protector was two big wheels spinning, in opposite directions from each other, with a series of optical and radio telescopes along with secret technologies. Two rocketships, and five smaller rocketshuttles, were parked in special bays or were inside hangers. Figures, in armoured spacesuits, were active completing work on parts of the mostly finished structure.

Despite being very important, the armoured spacestation had only self defence weapon systems. Nor was is it the orbital site of a spaceplatform where new machines were to be assembled of varied kinds. It had been wisely decided not to focus everything in one place and to have weapon spaceplatforms elsewhere that could be retaliated against. It was only one of over a dozen orbital structures to be constructed in future.

Yet the spacestation looked downwards, at the surface of the home world, as much as it did into space. Powerful telescopes, and cameras with telescopic lens, were seeking out something of great importance to the survival of that planet.
