So shale
First… how do we know it’s a she, everyone I hear refers to it as such… but shale strikes me as male… did I miss something?

What happens if you take shale to the deep roads or not will shale be de activated when you destroy the anvil? Does it matter if you take shale or not?

If you want to finish Shale's personal quest you have to take them into the Deep Roads, you'll find out Shale's gender as part of their personal quest as well, near the end.

Destroying the Anvil does not deactivate Shale.

Tip:

If you're planning on siding with Branka, it might not be wise to take Shale to the Anvil.
