Nexus Taboo?

Okay. So, I've noticed there is a certain site in the Skyrim modding world that people here aren't allowed to talk about. I've seen moderators even go so far as to edit out mention to the site. I understand that there are things on the site that Nexus doesn't endorse, but why are people forbidden from even mentioning it in casual conversation?

I am not trying to instigate any conflict. I am not even trying to challenge status quo, really. Is it just a matter of preserving this site's reputation, is there some bitter competition going on, or has the other site allowed things so bad that even its mention causes certain people to experience some sort of modder's PTSD?

If my hinting is too subtle, which I highly doubt, I am indeed talking about the site whose initials are "L.L."

Bitter competition? Uh - no.

The opposite of love is not hate but complete indifference. The site name is censored automatically out of the forums because of certain 'questionably' legal content that they're well known for. Nexus does not condone mentioning the site in order to keep it's notoriety from growing thanks to being mentioned here.

Very simple and very mundane.

The same question was asked on Reddit during the paid mods situation, to which I responded:

Some of the lies and slander that are allowed to be said on that site about the people who volunteer to moderate the Nexus are so horrific that I refuse to acknowledge the existence of it. I don't care about what's said about me, and I really don't care how that makes me look. You don't have to like the Nexus, you don't have to like me or the people who help to moderate the sites, but to allow some of the conversation that happens on a regular basis there is beyond any level of acceptable "live and let live" concept for me.
It's not about silencing critics, there's lots of other people, sites and blogs out there that have some bad things to say about the Nexus, but some of (and definitely not all of) the users on LL take it above and beyond criticism and turn it in to extremely vitriolic hate-speech, which I deem unacceptable. If the owners of LL think that's acceptable, then that's fine. I can't and won't control what other sites do, obviously, but at the same time, I don't think it's acceptable, and I show my disagreement by blacklisting the site.

There are some people who use this site who don't like me or others here and share that information freely elsewhere on their own blogs or other forums in the community. That's fine, I'm not going to start a crusade against these people because frankly, what does it matter? I know some users here who post such stuff else where; I find the fact some of these people hate me/the sites so much but continue to use them highly amusing, mind, but at the end of the day..."meh", it's not like I'm going to ban those people for airing their displeasure on their own mediums or anything.

Most of the stuff said about the Nexus on LL is stupid made-up shite while some of what is said has some legitimate grounds for not liking things here depending on perspective. Irrespective, when that open dislike turns in to the disgusting personal attacks, slander and lies that are openly written and allowed on LL from time to time, it crosses a line that is not acceptable for me.

I believe originally we blacklisted the site because it had some work uploaded without permission from original authors or otherwise work that wasn't entirely legal but, from what I hear as I haven't personally looked in a very long time, over time they've done a good job of cleaning things up while at the same time becoming a haven for a lot of the members who have been banned from the Nexus, hence the high amounts of vitriol towards the Nexus there. While the former is certainly not grounds for blacklisting any more and neither is having a large amount of banned Nexus members, the extent to which these (quite often obviously butt hurt) banned members are allowed to vent their hate there boggles the mind. Rather than get my knickers in a twist over it, it's a lot easier just to wipe my hands clean of the community, ignore their existence and let them get on with whatever they want to do.

Uh...well, I didn't know the extent to which their content crossed the line...or else I probably wouldn't have asked this question. No offense intended, of course.

Tbh there is lots of "questionable" stuff here on Nexus as well, and if you truly take an "indifferent" stance towards LL then you wouldn't blacklist them.

You can't claim to simply ignore them when you go out of your way by putting them on a blacklist and as far as I know the moderators there also do not tolerate any stealing of mods or mod assets.

The whole thing just seems personal to me.

my 2 cents.

I know there was a few times I barley mentioned a different modding site and my post got taken down, I found it quite rude and has left me worried since to even mention anything else on the Nexus aside from the Nexus. (Can't remember the post or anything, it was when I first joined awhile back.) It just seems a bit extreme to go to the lengths of completely attempting to remove even the thought of other sites, even if they are Anti-Nexus or whatever. To me I feel that it's one of those scenarios that the big guys don't like it so no one else can't like it/you can't talk about anything but us, seems a bit oppressive and anti-speech. I also am conflicted with this because I know there are other modding sites out there, some with interesting and unique work (non-stolen/copyright) - but we can't find them because we aren't allowed to discuss other sites here on the Nexus. While I have been on and seen some unique modding sites, none have "illegal" content but I fear to even mention them to others due to not wanting to get the boot or get in trouble. Just because I'm trying to show some support for other authors and perhaps send a little attention there way. Obviously promoting and such I can understand to be against site rules, I wouldn't approve of people shouting to go check out this mod on this site! etc etc. but just in simple conversations it'd be nice to not have to worry about getting in trouble. I just find it a bit isolated here, like the modding community isn't just the Nexus it revolves around the entire modding community on Steam, Nexus and other sites. While the Nexus can arguably be called the modding hub it would be nice for the underdogs and their people to get a little attention here and not be censored out. Because there is a ton of amazing work out there if you can look for it.

Just my stance, I don't know if things have changed recently or what. Regardless I'll abide by the rules.

Was going to say something very similar. Totally agree.

i heard, and correct me if im wrong Dark0ne, that it was also banned because it had ads and links to pornographic sites. i also know for a fact they still have stolen content. (i have found it while mod hunting for people, i dont use the site) so as Nexus has made quite clear piracy is not accepted under any circumstance.

I'm sorry, but Nexus has made its own reputation by being the most "strict" website in the entire modding community, the way certain moderators treat people is just baffling to me.

So in a way I can understand why there would be hate buzzing around on other websites regarding the Nexus, LL just happens to be the place where it all accumulates together.

Instead of Dark0ne blacklisting a site where people vent their anger and frustration about the Nexus, he should be asking himself why that anger and frustration is happening there in the first place...

Trying to hide a symptom does not make it go away!

hint:

Rules - margin of error - tolerance.
