I don't know how customized the forum code is, or if Invision already has a plugin for it, but implementing Akismet would almost certainly help in this situation. My blog has been using it since some time in mid-2007 and it has a nearly perfect track record for stopping them from ever being able to post, no matter how hard they've tried. Which is a good thing, because most of the stuff you can actually read is vile and disgusting.

Yeah I've looked at a few plugins for the forums in recent days with the most effective ones being the ones that access the stopforumspam.com databases to check for known spammers. Indeed I've paid for IPS's anti-SPAM services now and they seem to be doing a very good job of keeping out the automated bots.

Codemasters forums will not let anyone post a link or embed images until they've made 15 posts, I don't remember seeing much in the way of spam over there. Just a thought.
