I was talking about the idea that Bioware will hold back the toolset to sell more DLC.

Well, if they don't make the toolset, I hope that they make Miley Cyrus as a possible romance in a DLC or expansion. She would lie Leliana, except more awesome.

well, forever....how about you? :whistling:

Well I sure was until I actually played the demo. Within a few minutes of finishing it I placed a pre-order...

... for Witcher 2

But I am sure many folks will love the new arcade fighter look of Dragon Age

I'm laughing my socks off because many things people hate about DA2 are in TW2. It's really funny when people state TW2 is superior to DA2 when TW2 is less than RPG than DA2. You are more pre-defined than in DA2, you still have unrealistic game-style and voiced protagonist just to name a few. I'm going to sit here with my pre-orders for the year and enjoy the year of gaming.

its because thats what you expect in TW2. its supposed to be that way, not so in DA2. the gameplay isnt supposed to be unrealistic, TW2 is supposed to be more action then strategy. for DA its the other way around.

now i still have DA2 pre ordered, but since the demo, i am not "simply dieing" for the game any more. when it comes, ill play it, perhaps ill like it, but its not one of my most anticipated games any more. hell im more excited about Dynasty Warriors 7 for my PS3 then i am DA2 (which i am obviously getting for PC so there is no confusion) but on that not the way DA2 is looking, perhaps id be better off getting it for PS3 (im not, just saying) the way its played, no toolset, etc, console is no different then PC really, which blows.

No honey, that's not the same. Origins was originally advertised as an action-RPG, "spiritual successor of BG 2" was a marketing gimmick used to bring fans into the series (just like ME was advertised the spiritual successor of Kotor even though it had none of the mechanics of Kotor). There is not one shred of a element in Origins that it is the same in BG 2. DA2 is still an action-RPG but all of it's core mechanics is still the same, it's only faster and more stylised (something you would have seen in JE and Kotor).

When people criticized DA 2 and praise TW 2 for the same things that DA 2 has, it would be seen as a back-tracking of the person's opinion and considered as hypocritical. So yes, anyone who praises TW 2 while at the same time complaining about DA 2 is a hypocrite in my opinion. I'm still going to get TW 2 and as well as several other games but I know by heart that DA 2 and TW 2 will get a few awards while Skyrim and ME 3 are going to sweep the award ceremony. Skyrim and ME 3 are the most anticipated games in 2011 and come up in most top 10 lists while the former aren't really getting the huge hype that they deserve (and both do). Sad but really indifferent, there just really strong competition this year in RPGs and I'm planning to enjoy it.

Yeah, tough competition this year...I agree Skyrim and ME3...especially ME3...if they improve on ME2 in various ways...it will be ME3 all the way, no doubt!

You are of course free to hold whatever opinion of wish but from your remarks I suspect do not actually understand the objections some people have to the changes in DA.

Many people are comparing DA2 to DA:O and finding it wanting (in my case, despising the new animations compared to DA:O... not that I think the moves in DA:O were that great, just that they are now unacceptably worse in DA2), and therefore thinking of focusing more on TW2 than DA2... but I suspect this is not because TW2 is more like DA:O (certainly TW1 was nothing like DA:O).

I quite liked TW1, albeit I do think it had many significant flaws, but it certainly *was* an RPG... and from the dev videos I have seen, TW2 addresses most if not all the things I did not like about TW1. DA2 on the other hand has done the opposite for me, changing the 'look and feel' of the animations by hugely speeding everything up that I really dislike ("cheesy"). of course I will only know for sure when we get a TW2 demo.

Of course DA:O was always more stylised than TW1 but the new DA2 spaz-attack animations and constant OTT 'dramatic poses' after each spaz attack just broke the spell for me... plus this at least is something TW was always somewhat better at with its more 'gritty' style.

And I do not understand your contention TW2 is somehow less of an RPG than DA2, given they we know even less about TW2's RPG elements than we do about DA2's actual RPG element.

that's not true.. TW2 had it's EU release back last November.. so you should already know EVERYTHING there is to know about TW2 and its RPG elements if you took a second to look it up.. I had a friend buy me an EU copy and send it over (was a pain because the DRM made you verify by phone) and I beat the game in 2 days.. if you took a second you could look up and watch the entire game in gameplay videos and read exact descriptions and reviews about every single aspect of the game .. I thought that while it was nice looking it was rather generic in every other aspect and the animations were so still it was almost unbearable to watch.. as far as the RPG elements there weren't many to be had it was a very linear game with some side quests, no real story changing choices, and the skill and loot system was very simple

Nope. The Witcher TWO has not been released anywhere in the world. They have not even released a demo yet. It launches in May 2011.
