"FREE"** mods on the xbox one discussion/minor fallout 4 ramble

I say "free" because they will not be 100% free, we all have guessed by now that they are going to screen mods and such beforehand,

we have that established,

where will they come from? Bethesda.net evidently, i believe this will be a DRM type site like origin and steam..i regretfully say,

now, why do i say "free" when todd himself said and i quote "we are proud to announce that mods will be free to download and use on the xbox one {and ps4} systems!" (cue cheering)

well, they won't be free, bethesda has tried paid mods before, on pc where mods are free to download from anywhere,

that failed abysmally because well.. like i said they're free to download anywhere. and steam has always been a free site,

BUT! move the model to consoles..where they are forced to pay for mods to enjoy..

and bethesda will be rolling in cash,

it's a brilliant strategy,

i believe 150% that bethesda will find some way to sneak in a pay-wall.

and that will probably be in the form of Xbox live or PS+

you'll probably need it to download bethesda's manager.

let's look at another scenario,

maybe the mods are free, but will the downloader be free? bethesda's site might have a suscription fee.

you can only download mods for $10 per month or something.

like a membership.

now let's put it into a real life scenario to help people understand my thinking more clearly:

let's say you sell fish,

sell the fish by the sea or by a lake, nobody is going to buy your fish, they can just get it themselves.

sell the fish near a desert or a place where fish no longer dwell. people will pay anything to have fish. they don't have to they can eat other sources of food or live off bread, but they will if they choose to.

i've been perusing the internet looking into all kinds of discussions about the mods, comments, forums, even our own site.

and lots of console users are thinking they are going to get the HD texture mods and scripting.

i don't make mods, but i've downloaded enough from this site and seen enough (god bless alchestbreach)

to know that mods like wasteland defense or increased encounters would never work on an xbox,

these mods would require more ram, modification of game files, etc

i believe that nothing from the nexus is going to be on xbox or playstation.

it will all be from Beth's site/client.

and it will be PG-13 mods.

and like i said there will be some catch.

well played bethesda..well played.

you had me worried about the existence of pc gaming (mods are our meat!) but. i can see by "free" you mean scaled down, lackluster, non-heavily scripted (hell i could barely get New vegas's haunted house to work!) mods, like guns and armor.

mods are nothing new to console gaming (UT3 did it) , but bethesda is the first to actually capitalize and be brave enough to bring it on.

now if you doubt me, look at Minecraft on the ps3/xbox (especially xbox) microsoft made/(makes?) people pay for skins,

and since microsoft is in love with fallout 4 (they showed it at their e3!) you can also bet that pc gamers are going to get left in the dust (microsoft is trying to do EVERYTHING they can to make the xbox less inferior then the pc, even a partnership with beth) so if microsoft charges for skins on minecraft and beth let microsoft handle their mods/dlc..

well, there's another scenario.

there is no way these mods are going to be 100% free.

and again, none of these mods like (off the top of my head) someguy's quests are going to make it to the xbox,

it's a truly brillant business move i must concur.

todd has them eating in the palms of his hands.

on a side note, i have a really bad feeling about fallout 4,

and after seeing "fallout shelter" (200 megabytes btw! just wow oh and the microtransactions is what im shocked about) i can see them milking it for all it's worth,

they finally see how badly people wanted fallout 4, and by gartering so much hype, they can now get away with any business practice so long as it pertains to fallout 4,

they will be able to have pools filled with money by nov 10th (or 11th)

they're trying to make it like mass effect also, so there's that

yes it does look awesome but i see a chance for milking also,

and the mods? paid mods are going to return, like i said,

skyrim was just a test,

i'll leave you all to discuss it,

but that is my 2 cents,

any counter-arguments welcome and i look forward to a civil discussion.
