TheNexusLurker
I'm having a problem where torches are extremely bright and their brightness level seems additive. Please help this is driving me nuts. I've had this problem on and off with a number off different mods. I have no idea what causes this. I've seen people post about this problem before but, it seems like the majority of players never notice this or it doesn't happen to them. Some say its an engine limitation and it happens when there are too many lights in one area but, that doesn't explain how one guard can create this problem. Anyone with a torch in my game is now brighter than a thousand suns. Ive googled this like millions of times over the past year or so. What is this?! Here are two examples. The First one is of a guard in the middle of a pitch black night from the Realistic nights mod. The second one with a crowd of adventures from Populated lands and road mod, in the middle of a pitch black night from the Realistic nights mod. MotoSxorpio
Realistic Nights sets ambient lighting very low, and raises the torch light radius by nearly three times. If you have the ambition to change this yourself, get TES5Edit or CK out and reduce Torch01 (LGHT) "radius": http://i.imgur.com/HX6FeQQ.png?1 Note radius under Realistic Nights is "1500"... TheNexusLurker
Awesome. I'll try that as soon as I get back to my pc. Between MO, various patches, mod hunting, load order, loot, enb, ini files and wyre bash, ect, I haven't figured out how to use tes5edit properly.I've only used it to clean the masters with the assistance of gophers videos. Hopefully I can watch some good videos on it and make those changes. Thanks for assistance hopefully it will solve the problem. Thanks for assistance hopefully it will solve the problem.Just extract TES5Edit anywhere (I stick it all in Skyrim folder, but doesn't matter what directory). Be sure ALL files that come with it are extracted to the same directory. Once that is done, just double-click TES5Edit.exe, you should be prompted to check/uncheck load order/mods. By default, all currently enabled mods should be checked. Click OK and TES5Edit loads up. Once it says "finished" in messages tab, find Realistic Nights plugin in the left pane, expand (click the + signs) and look under "Light" in Realistic Nights' record tree. In the right pane, once you have selected a record in the left pane, you can adjust anything you feel necessary. Simply right click and select edit, you may be prompted with a warning...click yes and proceed. When you've adjusted what you want adjusted, just close the application and you will be prompted to make changes to any plugins you have edited. Confirm you want them edited by clicking OK. You're done. Enjoy lower light radius lights! woot.
TheNexusLurker
Well I managed to pull that off. The radius of torches are now noticeably smaller. However they are still quite bright. Is the brightness a RGB color thing?
MotoSxorpio
Brightness could be "FNAM - Fade Value". Lower makes the light softer, fading and blending as the light reaches the outer radius. Higher makes the light hard, with sharp defining edge and doesn't fade and blend. A number between 1.0 and 1.35 will put off a nice soft light, letting the edge of the radius blend nicely and not so harsh. Try adjusting this value. :)
TheNexusLurker
Well reducing the radius seems to be the biggest factor in reducing the problem. I did try to adjust FNAM - Fade Value but, the root of the problem is else where. It seems that lights add together to increase total brightness. I'm wondering if its just light of the same color or if its all lights. Either way you will get this when there are too many torches. https://imageshack.com/i/exNknteHj
MotoSxorpio
Well...ENB and other mods can have stacking, depending on method. WOW that screenshot is blazingly bright! haha Interesting...normally, you'd have clipping/twitchy/flashy light and whatnot with that many torches. What mods are you using? Might as well post load order and mod list.

TheNexusLurker
I think this might actually have something to do with patching Procing Realistic nights and or torch/lighting mods into Requiem or ASIS. Currently testing this theory because I was using Grim and Somber enb and Realistic Nights as well as lighting over haul and had no torch problems at one point as seen in the photo bellow. https://imageshack.com/i/hlVHh4vWj
