I downloaded an installed Wrye Python 03a with no problems and then I used the Wrye Bash 291 installer. Towards the end of the Wrye Bash installation it asked if I wanted to use run Wrye bash with Oblivion and after the installation Wrye Bash ran fine but after I closed it I could not open it again. When I click to open it nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything several times and I don't know whats happening. What is going on?

Are you by any chance using WIndows 7? I recall having this problem at first, too. I run it as Admin and all is fine now.

I actually am running Windows 7, how do I run it at admin? Usually when I right click I see the option but I don't see the option when I right click on the launcher.

The launcher isn't an executable program. It's a python file and launches with python.exe, which should be in whatever directory you decided for python to live. That's why you don't have an option to run it as administrator.

Sadly, I have a very similar problem, except that I've never been able to get Wrye Bash to even start up. Yes, I'm on Win7 x64, and, yes, I have python.exe set to run as administrator. I've even tried several emulation modes and nothing seems to work. At this point I'm about ready to un-install the whole mess and forget that Wrye Bash even exists.

It shouldn't happen with WB 291, but with earlier versions, if WB left a file called pidfile.tmp (used to prevent 2 instances of WB being open at once) in the \Oblivion\mopy\ folder, Wrye Bash would not run. Check for that file and delete it if it is there.

Wrye Bash doesn't launch with python.exe, it runs with Pythonw.exe. Providing you do not have any other versions of Python than those in the Nexus download, and you install WB with the 291 installer, there should be no reason for it not to run, unless you have Oblivion installed in 'Program Files', in which case Windows' UAC will be punishing you. Install games outside of 'Program Files', somewhere like C:\Games\Oblivion\

Right click the folder, properties, security tab. Hope it helps.

If for some reason that doesn't work, the options usually recommended are relocate all the Oblivion stuff to any non locked location such as your games folder as Hickory suggests. This method is the one preferred by most people that write about this because it is generally going to work, and it isn't risky. It will NOT work for you properly if you use Steam like I do. Steam gets confused. Another option, riskier, disable the UAC feature. I wouldn't, personally, because that pretty much disables much of Windows 7 security if you do. Sometimes I have been really tempted though. One of the risks of creating a strong security system is that if it is too intrusive many users disable it. That is why even though almost all computers today ship with some form of antivirus app and a firewall program other than just the Windows one, users often disable all that as soon as they figure out how, because of too many alerts and unreasonable blocking of normal/common actions.

You're right. I missed the "w" when I was typing that and didn't notice it until you pointed it out. No, I'm not running Oblivion from the default install directory. It's installed in c:Games\Oblivion. I've been playing around a bit and tried to run the debug batch file from the command line and what appears to be a console window flashes on the screen with text for a tiny fraction of a second -- not enough to get even a glimpse of what any of it says, and I've verified that python.exe will run. pythonw.exe will not, and I'm trying to run it with administrator privileges and have tried WinXP, Win2000, and Vista emulation. Nothing works.

I used the 291 installer and selected all options as they came up, since, frankly, I have no idea what most of them do and was afraid to deny any of them. I do have ironpython.dll and ironmath.dll in my Oblivion directory, but I doubt these are interfering in any way. I don't remember off the top of my head which utility is using those, though.

Ferryt, my Oblivion directory is in the Steam folder, in the supposedly impossible to work with location Program Files(x86). Mine is working. My Mopy folder is in the Oblivion folder, along with OMM etc. I gave the entire Oblivion folder full privs. It shouldn't matter that you installed elsewhere, but is your Mopy folder in the same place as the Oblivion.exe?

Those two .dlls are in my Oblivion directory too. So you are correct, that isn't your issue.

Open up a command prompt and cd to c:\games\oblivion\mopy, then paste in:
C:/Python26/Python.exe "Wrye Bash Debug.py" -d > BashBugDump.log

Regarding ironpython.dll and ironmath.dll, those are installed by OBMM.
