I played the demo. I WON'T be buying the game. EPIC FAIL.

I read it in the 2.5 Million member moding post he put up... Though I just now, I see he added Red text saying that it is modable via the DA:O toolset.

Just talking about the Demo now

Pros - 1. The rendering and the graphic are a notch up from the last.
2. I think the combat is more fluid a further step in the right direction and let me throw in my opinion. In a game where you are controlling multiple characters in a party without the AI doing it for you 100%, cannot help but have to pause and click a'bit... and get back... in the fight.
3. There is a story there, granted the Demo serves it to you like a movie trailer but that is a Big Plus as for the Witcher games; once again with the opinion.
4. It looks like the skills are now setup like a Tech Tree, less linear that makes sense to me characters can come about their development or learning in different ways.

Cons - just 1 Major one. The Demo starts out with your character, the main character; I don't know it just seems frustrating that they develop a demo for a game which premise is to immerse yourself in a character and then the Demo has you play your character that you cannot change his or her looks and they force you to play the first 15-20mins of a game you might buy (shouldn't we get refunded for say 4 bucks since we have already played part of it). I was hoping, when I started the Demo that I was going to play some third character (like the Dwarf in the demo) so what I played in the Demo was not going to be completely repetitive when I install the real game.

All and all though I think DA 2 is where I want to see games going and to go further, yes fight the exciting slaying of orcsies in all the colors of the rainbow but to have a path to choose and have the game unfold like a story of your making. Where Movies and Games become some kind of hybrid.

Peace,

I also like to see multiple pathways unfold through the game depending on the paths that you choose. I remember in Wing Commander IV you could flirt with a blonde or a red-head and ended up with one or the other (or none) depending upon your decisions in the Game. That was cool.

Building a characters statistics and abilities etc. is an important part of RPG for me, as your character evolves and unfolds in much the same way as the plot. Especially when the pathway options change depending on the nature of the character you have developed.

Graphics and the customization of the characters appearance is critical to me, including a range of clothing and the ability to acquire "God Items" should the need arise, and I really like the MODS developed to this end.

Building relationships with NPC's is a cool aspect of gaming and yet, to date, hasn't been as extensive as what it could be in terms of shaping interactions and determining the final outcome.

Another neat aspect of DAO I liked was starting out as a nobody and becoming a hero. I really liked the aspect in Awakening of being called "sir" and having the power of making judgement and decisions affecting the NPCs.

And the social aspects of jumping on a forum or talking to friends about the game like you might a popular "teeVee" series adds to the over all experience.

One hopes that subsequent games (like DA2) build and improve on these kinds of aspects but it isn't always the case.

whether or not DA2 will achieve this against DAO was difficult to discern from the Demo. I suppose time will tell.

Nope. Back in the old days when demos were the rule rather than the exception you usually got to play a single level of the upcoming full game and you did not get a reduced price either.

Which i would gladly except, if that old habit would come back.. because it was a good habit.

Now you got to wait until somebody puts some in-game game play on Youtue.. to see if it is something for you.

Next to the fact that you would still not know if you can play it with mouse and arrow-keys, And buying a game has become just a gamble..

This has greatly diminished my buying games, because after a lemon or 2.. i stopped buying blind.

This is why i probably wont buy the Witcher, to name an example.

Their loss...

Sounds to me like the demo served its purpose, therefore did not fail.

The game, well, that's another matter. Then again considering demos sometimes don't accurately reflect the actual game...

The spoken lines and words could be explained somewhat by the PC having no choice over race, there's no need for the alternative dialogue for different races. The rest is understandable given the much shorter development time for the sequel.

Hehe...the fact that I cannot get past that ogre just yet has, perversely, made me even more eager to get hold of the full relz version so that I can use inventory and everything properly in order to kill the beggar! Seriously, I shall endeavour to enjoy the game however bad I am at it at first. I was the same with Drakensang, I got so familiar with the load screen!
