I played the demo. I WON'T be buying the game. EPIC FAIL.

Hehe...the fact that I cannot get past that ogre just yet has, perversely, made me even more eager to get hold of the full relz version so that I can use inventory and everything properly in order to kill the beggar! Seriously, I shall endeavour to enjoy the game however bad I am at it at first. I was the same with Drakensang, I got so familiar with the load screen!

I had to stop playing Drakensang before I put my head through the screen.

I've been playing the demo for a few days now and I must admit I've enjoyed it. I'm under no illusion that this reflects the final product and a lot of the things we would normally get we couldn't. But hey its a demo and that's to be expected.

I wanted to change clothing, weapons etc etc and couldn't but figured that as it was a demo its bound to have limitations, same with certain freeware were you get the basics but if you want the complete package you have to "pay for it". Seems like a fair trade to me.

Anyway what it was lacking will be made up for in the release, the story line has me intrigued and the fact that it links in so well with DAO has me smiling for consistency if nothing else. I'm currently reading the prequel books whilst waiting for the game to be released so I'm happy.

Roll on the 11th is all I can say.

Calling it an epic fail due to your (the OP) dislike is rather tragic; I for one think this will be a better game than the first; sure its not BG2, but then I can still play BG2 (and did last summer, and plan to do again soon) ~ but there is enough improvements, and so far only one annoyance (the camera, but it kind of works) to the original, which was a flawed game for my tastes, and so will this be, but most likely I'll have a great deal of fun going through.

As for the combat on the PC it seems just to be the same old from BioWare, just with more animations to hide the inactivity (save ME1&2 and Jade Empire) - also I hope they add FF as an option to nerf AoE and make mages more tactical and less HELLFIRE.

Anyway.

looks good, not grandiosely so, but for me its far from a fail so far, and hardly any epic failure.

Also the original was too easy, even on the highest difficulty (never whelped in the demo, needs more of a challenge); this I truly hope they will fix or I will have to wait for mods of some kind (or self nerf, something I dislike).

Yeah, that Ogre is a bugger, but you dont get enough skills to properly defeat him. i have no problem with him as a Rogue of any gender.. but as a female Mage i somehow do. Even Bethany, or whats her name, is stronger then you, and i only pass him if i choose to have the others attack him, spending any medpacks on them, thus possibly sacrificing my Mage, basically.. and take wintergrasp and fireball myself... as you only get 2 levelups.. and fireball the crap out of the ogre, using wintergrasp on any bugger that attacks me..

The second Ogre, i mean.. the first one is easy.

So how do you manage to get past him as a rogue? Am going to have to note whatever you say as I am getting a bit exasperated with my own incompetence, hehe!

@ginnyfizz;

I used the "Backstab" and the "Evade" talents as often as I could, with Bethany freezing him every chance she got. Used her fireballs to take care of the other critters (no friendly fire from AoE in the Demo ;) ) and health potions (and maybe I took one level of heal for Bethany... can't remember) to keep Aveline and myself in the fight until we beat him down.

Kinda' reminded me of that Boss Ogre fight at Ostagar, at the top of the Tower of Ishal:

"OMG! What do I do now? How come nuthin' seems to work on this guy?! ... Ohhhhh. I see. More of this. A little of that...
Run, you fragile Mage! Taunt, you meat-shield Fighter! Ok. Ok. Now we got him!" ;D

Ahhh, the good ol' days! :thumbsup:

@ginnyfizz:
This worked for me on normal, hard and Nightmare. (all classes, but mage is hardest).

Aveline is your tank, but she can't stand being swamped with darkspawns, so you need to get them off her. Also she is stronger/harder than you, so you won't be able to easily survive standing besides the ogre, even if she is tanking, due to the AOE, so focus Bethany/Carver and you on killing the smaller darkspawns.

This works well on normal or hard, and Aveline tanks the Ogre on her own, while Carver/you and Bethany/you deal with the riff raff and once they are done you all focus on the Ogre (remember to use shield defence on Aveline).

If you are still struggling, as I did on nightmare to keep Aveline alive: Pull her off the ogre and have her help killing smaller spawns as well, as long as who ever got the aggro from the Ogre keeps her/his distance - this is probably the easiest road. Here the Mage in my nightmare runs attacks first and hardest, gaining a strong aggro from the Ogre, and then just runs in circles while throwing ice, and sometimes fire (watch for FF on Nightmare). It turns out that doing this will actually make the Ogre really easy as it will continue to rush you, and throw rocks; but since Nightmare brings FF for everyone the ogre will injure his friends more than he ever does your mage (Avline and Carver/you can withstand her rushes decently).

Actually I once lost both Carver and Aveline on the Ogre, only having my mage, and mindblast (tried a non fire solution) - and its possible to kill all spawns and the Ogre with just mindblast and the staff; just keep kiting them, and once they get too close (can't be too often) use mindblast. Takes forever, but is doable since nothing there is using arrows, save the Ogres rocks, but they can be easily sidestepped.

& as Thandal wrote remember to use your talents - and remember to use your natural (extremely potent) health regeneration - just 10 seconds off the mêlée and you can dive back in again; use this if possible instead of potions (that are only a last resort, though do use them since they will vanish after this fight anyway).

Also this is for the final Ogre fight - for the first I'd just use the abilities you have and if need be back off (or if rogue use evasion) once health is getting low. Hard to help on this one since I never had any issues here.

Thanks guys, I will try that! At least when I get the full game (Friday, woohoo!) I shall have chance to save just before so I can keep trying. I didn't seem to have this trouble with the ogre in the Tower Of Ishal so I guess I will figure it eventually!

3 mages 1 tank is the best combination and hardest to handle,but if you can control 3 mages no matter..

on Nightmare I hope it won't be due to FF and sneaking enemies.

there is a risk that it will be, like in DA:O (In truth 4 mages would have been better).
