ENBoost Works But Not Actual ENB?

Recommended Posts

So... I can load ENBoost just fine. Completely fine. When I try to load an ENB instead of ENBoost, it just gives me a black screen with title menu audio regardless of Wrapper or Injector... Help?

Specs--

8GB RAM

AMD Raedeon 6870 1GB

AMD Elite Quad-Core A8-6500

2TB HDD

This happens even with no mods installed and clean install.

ENBBoost and ENBseries are the same. ENBBoost is active as only booster when the following is set to "true" in your ENBLocal.ini:

[GLOBAL]
UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=
Setting this to "false" allows ENB enhancements and presets to be used.
You must set up your ENBLocal.ini [Memory] block specially targeted to your hardware. Once this INI is set to your hardware, there is no reason to use an ENBLocal.ini from any other preset. This ENBlocal.ini is yours, and yours alone.
Here is a "guide" to setting up your ENBlocal.ini: http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI

I'm not quite understanding what I'm doing wrong... I followed the instructions for the mod, only I can't find ENB v0249 so I use the most recent one... Is that the problem?

If a preset needs a certain version, likely that preset was adjusted on that version. Usually it is fine to update the binary, but some functions may not be as expected if a version is LOWER than the one prescribed. Always read the updates for ENB on Boris' site. http://enbdev.com/download_mod_falloutnv.htm

A lot of the time, Boris updates and removes older versions if something drastic has changed...usually performance code. Here is the latest, scroll through to see what version changes happened and why:

http://enbdev.com/mod_falloutnv_v0278.htm

Boris also names the versions numeric and ascending, and doesn't include game. So one day it might be 0.266 for the latest ENB Skyrim, then GTA 0.270 comes out; a week later Skyrim 0.272...version tracking is not as expected, in other words.

Your main concern would be these settings:

[MEMORY]
ExpandSystemMemoryX64=false
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=false
DisableDriverMemoryManager=true
DisablePreloadToVRAM=false
EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false
ReservedMemorySizeMb=512
VideoMemorySizeMb=1024
EnableCompression=false
AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true

...which the link I provided earlier will give details on what each does and whether to adjust them or leave them alone.
The preset you linked has that user's enblocal.ini, which might be the issue...enblocal.ini is for the local machine, configured to the machine's OS and hardware capabilities. Example: if you do not have 64bit OS and have "ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true", then bad things. Once you have enblocal.ini configured and game running smoothly without a preset, backup your enblocal.ini before installing this preset, and overwrite the enblocal.ini that the user provides in the preset installer.
Good luck. :)

I've taken a look at it and read the STEP guide in it's fullest. When I launch 4GB NV (With the d3d9 in exes folder) it still only gives me a black screen with the sound. If I use the regular launcher, it crashes. Can someone please help?

ok, ENB or ENBoost is a program written by this dude: http://enbdev.com/download_mod_falloutnv.htm

(click on v0.278 for latest version download)

this program I believe takes over the graphics rendering from the main application

all the mods you see on the nexus with the suffix 'ENB' are basically someone's custom set of 'presets' to be used in this program, so basically these 'ENB' mods are just someone's custom configuration of the settings in the ENBoost program

if you are new to modding and don't really know what you're doing I would suggest skipping the ENB stuff for now, it's treated entirely different than everything else; it's basically a more in depth way to customize the lighting/shading in the game

(If this is wrong, feel free to correct me)

I am 100% aware of this and have been modding for a little over a year, creating my own conversions and one simple mod myself, mild experience with the G.E.C.K. and know how to use tools such as 4GB loader, NVSE, NVConfigurator, Texture Optimizer, REFR Deleter, BSAUnpacker, and NVEdit. I have only successfully installed an ENB one time when I first installed my latest graphics card, but experienced a lot of crashes. Afterwards, I removed the ENB to never touch it again until recently, where I would try a less performance heavy one, only to find that now -- even with the one I installed first -- they all give me black screen then crash upon startup. There also have been a few times where I would be able to get the game running again, but the ENB application would be totally ignored by the game (no words at the top corner.) Would this have something to do with my card being an AMD? I know that ENB was designed with nVidia in mind. Also, if it is, are there any fixes to get them to working with an AMD card?
