Any way to fix Skyrim shadows w/o ENB?

The subject pretty much sums it up. I have an older laptop that can run Skyrim fine on High settings with the Skyrim 2K HD LITE textures and still get 30 - 40 fps, but it just doesn't have the horsepower to run an ENB (though I am using ENBoost.) With Imaginator, I can get Skyrim to look pretty good, but the shadows are jarring. I adjusted the shadow setting in skyrimprefs.ini according to this 'mod' :

and they went from horrible to pretty good in most places. However, shadows are still pretty bad in a significant number of places, mostly indoors. Is there anything besides an ENB that I can use to fix the awful shadows? If there isn't, I'll just need to deal with it, but it seems like something that should be easy to fix.

Not sure it's relevant, but specs below:

Dell Precision M6400

CPU: Intel QX9100 @ 2.26 GHz

GPU: ATI FirePro M7740 (equiv. to Radeon 4860M)

RAM: 8GB DDR3-1066

HD: Corsair MX100 256GB SSD
