I've been trying to install this forever but I can't find the addins folder. (Where does it go).

LOCATION OF THE ADDINS FOLDER::
Computer > Local Disk > Program Files > Dragon Age 2 > addins
TO TURN ON THIS MOD::
Once you have control of Hawke, bring up the Abilities screen (hit the P button). This is the screen where you can pick all of your spells/talents that you use when fighting. You'll notice that at the very bottom of the screen is the icon for summoning your Mabari. If the mod is properly installed, there will now be a red icon with a puppet master symbol on it (the same icon used in the Blood Magic tree). Drag the icon to your action bar, exit the Abilities screen, then click the icon. You will see a message that says "Sophie enabled."

There seems to be a problem with Birthright again, was working fine before I installed the latest patch and now. whether I have the mod enabled or disabled it gives me the armor upgrade and quest for Bethany when Carver is still alive. Not sure if the opposite is true though, will need to test it and see...

I've noticed recently on some more play through's with this mod that its not entirely true that the game doesn't recognize you as a Mage if you have it active and still have Bethany. When after the blightlands if you turn the mod off, the game with recognize you as a mage, and "mostly" notice that Bethany is still alive. The options in the conversations can still be made as if you are a Mage AND if Bethany is with you, she still chimes in with her dialogue and it sounds perfectly to fit in with the conversation, almost as if it was intended that she survived.
The only down side is when in the Lowtown house and the mod is off and Bethany is still alive, she will not be there but you will hear Carver talking instead in those few instances with the banter inside the house, you would have to exit the house and switch on the mod then re-enter to see her and talk to her. Also in some dialogue options when Hawke directly talks about loosing one of the siblings and the mod is still off/on, they will mention loosing Carver or Bethany even if they are alive.
To me it felt almost as if the option to choose which sibling lives/dies was supposed to originally be in the game. Maybe not directly choosing but possibly with dialogue choices in the starter location in the blightlands.

I followed exactly where to put this and started a new game as a mage and bethany still died. Also there is nothing that shows to turn it on or off. Any suggestions? thanks.

It does work.
You just need to put the folder "xatmos_sophie" in the folder "C:\Program Files\Dragon Age 2\addins" Then, in-game, go to your abilities, put the ability on your hotkey bar and activate the mod.
