so I was wondering if I could do the same as in ME2 where you can get a save from Mass Effect saves and import it to ME2? So if I downloaded a DAO save from here could I use the file as an import?
DAO save game possible to import even without having it installed?

Yes, you can even generate your own thanks to Gibbed http://social.biowar...ect/4242/#files

Yup, at least if the saved game file (the ".das") you want to use is found in the folder structure the way DA2 expects: "\[player's profile]\BioWare\Dragon Age\Characters\[charactername]\Saves\[slot_x]\[savename].das", for an existing character.
I have been unable to use a "known good" save if it was stored in a newly created folder, but no problem when I stuck it under a different, already valid one!

but the game is screwed up in that some of the choices are detected wrongly
plus it doesn't even make any difference in the game, just some random dialogue might reflect those choices

Also minor quests and characters appear or don't depending on your actions. Most notably so far in my games are.
The conspirators from the Awakening; or if you dealt with it then that quest won't show in DA2.
Werewolves and Elves; depending on choice you get 2 different small quests.
& I've not played more than the first year, and both my saves are more or less the same, just small variations.
Not sure how they will solve Anders dying, obviously he got the spirit of justice in him, but he would be undead or dead I guess.
