well I didnt hate Da2 but i didnt like it much either. I sometimes had to compel myself to continue it ,and I thoguth o i will try another class mb that will make it better for me.... but i couldnt hit the escape key fast enough, It just doesnt make me want to experience that same story with another class. I felt an undercurrent of an important story, but it was like reading scraps of a book without ever getting the full page..
the combat was very flashy, to fast often for me to find my pc in the midst of all the aoe spells and rain of fires from the archers too! I couldnt set up a tatic as sometimes the mob would be completely invisible inside some Of my own teams light shows... O and random clikcing for next target, only succeeded in bring up my dog or aveline etc as targets . I could understand this system say... on an xbox where there is usually less control . { once again before anyone flames me,.. I do have some visual problems and i cannot say if the light shows were just bad for me or if they were just bad, but since it was my eyes, it was colorful but bad,,, to much show.]
the family?? Pfft there was never a connection to them, they were either mean or stupid or meanly stupid. I didnt like the interaction with them at al most of the time. I suppose i could blame the goofy conversation wheel as it didnt deliver anything along the lines I picked . I think i woud prefer to actually see the line my pc is to say cuz then I would AT least know what they are going to say instead of the silly comments that came out. I was left more than once with the WTH did he say expression?
O yes i had to play as a guy this time, [ soemtimes playign different genders can be fun, but this was mostly becuz I could not stand to look at the female run animation, I think i must have laughed so hard my eyes were watering... and then i jsut got disgusted with it.
The side quests mb had some interest in them [ just a few tbh imo] I liked merrills and Fenris' the rest w as meh. THe main plot storyline was so long in coming that by the time it DID really become part of the gameplay i was so annoyed with the whole mage/templar thing I barely made it onward. I wanted to kill everyone to shut the dialog up ,, I have never felt murderous like that before.
As for romance plots, I laugh at that. without giving spoilers i cant cite it but wow, that was not really romantic... tbh to me, i didnt really feel for any of the characters as invested, besides Varric, Merrill was silly but I thought her cute [ banters and stuff] and fenris i totally digged his voice! But I didnt even care if there was a romance becuz to me the Main pc was shallow... and I felt almost all the time like i was playing a Movie, that occassionally allowed me to pick the line] Or a book where u choose which page to go to next, very shallow.; With way to many slice and dice mobs in between. the scenery out of town was pretty but after i seen them so MANY MANY times i was tired of that too.
Then i was running errands and suddenly its the end of the story,,, one block over so to speak, I had no clue fro the vague story line that it was the end approaching. I mean mega fight like power ranger and t he end.....
It was disappointing for me in the story and character developement, I think there was some hidden depths hinted at but.. like a line from varric, Im really sick of mages and templars right now. I was kinda sick of the story too.
I know there are those that loved FF series etc and they call them rpgs, but I couldnt play that s eries for the same reason I really cant see myself playing da2 again for, the story, The immersion of story is MY game.. this felt so minimal and unreal i tried to " pretend I was there in their shoes" but it felt like i was watching a transformer cartoon... er or wait mb the cartoon had more story>? haha
Im not going to lie sometimes i enjoyed the game, like AVelines guard quest . that actually made me giggle,. but the gratuitous mobs all over town [ wher e were the guards anyways? how unreal [ OOps i cant continue cuz of possible spoilers } just suffice it to say that many of the mobs certainly should have been detected by officials or civilans.
I never felt like my pc ever made a significant choice that ever effected the outcome of the game... EVER. it was that movie playing onward despite ur own voice trying to chime in. really could have been so much better kept coming thru my mind, instead of wow this is cool.
That being said , I can see the appeal to some folks, My boyfriends 12 year old luvs exploding corpses and hates any dialog. he will love the game! no joke or aspersion on any of our maturer peep [ age wise i mean] that enjoyed it.
SO i guess what I am feeling mostly is, it was a game, that really should not have been related to DAO or even DAA to me, If u like that kidn of action game and " light rpg' well then it will be good for that, it was not however what i expected or wanted based on the laureals of the originals.

I'm actually planning my 4th playthrough of DA2; it surprised myself when I was starting to consider a force mage or an Rogue Archer (not used much of either; still I've used a ton of Primal through Merrill, so dunno).

(only done with 1, but two others are around level 20, and both are starting out on the final act, and given its length, I'll be done with all 3 soon.)

Still 50-60 hours per playthrough it seems. maybe a bit less with the warrior. (currently at 35 Hours, but almost at the same place my mage is at with 49 hours).

The mage is probably the slowest on the other hand, and is giving me most issues and reloads (due to party instability and experimentation, mostly played on Hard, but some NM; probably going back to NM, going to be fun to see if the party can deal with it).

The problem now is to decide what character to go by; and since I used up the 3 obvious ones ~ kind, harsh and humerus; yet all with my own morals and opinions of the world; I guess I'll have to do a character I don't care for, as someone who doesn't care about friends, and maybe likes religion.

I just don't like DA2. I am going back to Origins and pretending DA2 was never made.

I agree! Totally! What a ridiculous attempt at improving the game. Anyone else feel like they are in an arcade?

When looked at apart from DA:O, it was an above average game. That being said, it falls significantly short of its predecessor in many respects.

Some ways I think it falls short are, the story is extremely linear and short, you're confined to a single city and a handful of locations outside of it (I think somewhere between 4 and 6), most battles have an indefinite number of enemies which makes it extremely hard to have an effective battle plan, there's a lack of companion armor, dialogue choices are pretty simplified, and characters/companions are only skin deep. All that being said, I thought the textures/shaders/animations/models/etc were (mostly) beautiful, the dialogue was well written/spoken, the characters and story were compelling on the surface (albeit without nearly the depth of origins), and the interface redesigns were sleek, minimalistic, and more functional/logical (notably the skill distribution "webs"). I also like that the users dialogue choices were spoken, but if this was a factor in limiting the dynamic-ness of the game/story, I'd rather just pick from a series of text options and hear the responses.

In my opinion, Dragon Age: Origins was an RPG for RPG gamers. It was a rare gem of a game that took the time to get it right. It took longer to make, but probably won't make more money. Because of that, I don't think we'll see another Bioware game that can compare in the foreseeable future.

I was talking in a pub a few years ago with my friend McNulty. He was deep in his cups when he pointed to the road outside. "See that road there? I built that, I carried each cobble from ten miles away and fitted them very carefully. It's a fine road. Took me years to do that." I agreed that it was, indeed, as fine a cobble road as I had ever seen. "Do they call me 'McNulty the road builder'? No."

"See that church on the top of the hill at the end of the road? I built that church. Every brick and stone I laid myself. Every bit of stained glass I cut. Every bit of the alter I carved myself. It is a thing of beauty that will last for hundreds of years. But do they call me 'McNulty the church builder'? No! But I shag one bloody goat............... "

There is a moral in there somewhere about reputations and expectations.

And a lesson, perhaps, for EA .

Bioware never made Bioshock. Also GTA is not an RPG. Also The Old Republic is going to be published by EA. It's an MMO, so there is your reason why it takes so long.. Since it's an MMO though, i predict that it's going to suck.

mah bad on the bioshock, and i'd classify GTA as an rpg in the way, at least the 3d ones, though it is a shooter, your playing a role of someone running around, doing missions, etc etc, get different weapons, though there is no level up system. Well Bioware is part of EA now, ever since EA bought them out in 2008 so i guess you can say it is being published by EA in a certain respect. Look on the swtor site man, BIOWARE & LUCASARTS, more then likely bioware is doing the development and Lucasarts is going to publish, after all, it hold's their namesake, star wars. I predict it's going to kick some ass, it's been like 5 years in the making (the writers for the story started writing back in 2006).

EA is the sole publisher. LucasArts has dropped out from publishing the game, and will act mostly as a licensor.

My first impression moving from DA:O's combat to that of DA2 was OMGWTFISGOINGON, then I got used to it, and it was great, except when the ally's AI acted like an idiot, forcing me to take over. But that was okay too.

My main problem with DA2 is the fact that there's, what, around 7 different maps or something? Going into the same dungeon over and over and over again was beyond annoying >_> The wave-style of combat didn't help much either. I'd have preferred to take on all the enemies at once.

As for story...it's a real shame that I'm practically forced to look forward to mods and DLC to get what I was hoping for in terms of story. DA2 is just so repetitive and linear that it's hard to bring myself to play through it again...

DA2 is a lot more easier from DAO in DAO you have watch about what desionions you make cause it can effect your companions if they love you or hate you ... DAO is a lot more harder from DA2 :wallbash: i finished with rogue and warrior whole game in 34 hours on hard :wallbash:
in DAO on hard you have to play like crazy to pause the game all the time to think how will you kill the boss and stuff like that ... DA2 isnt challenging enough like DAO :pinch: i enjoy a challange  plus in DA2 you cant lose a companion you have some new kind of system of friendship and rival thingy i dont like that :wallbash: you cant talk to your companians when you want like in DAO ... or give them gifts  im realy realy DISAPOINTED in DA2 it makes me like i wana cry ... plus upgrades of armor for companions :wallbash: nightmare i dont even know where to get the rest of them >_< i finded 2 upgrades for each of compnions and i cant find anymore >_< plus there is no romance in DA2 or i didnt find it yet cause i sow achivement for it  does anyone else think that DA2 is kinda lame >_< ?

I can't really grasp how people find DA:O harder than DA2; maybe before they mad Nightmare in DA:O easy, maybe before that; but after that DA:O was an easy game to beat.

& you can't find the romances? This is esp. weird since they are so extremely prominent; and you can make love to 4-5 companions if you are bent either way.

Did you try visiting their homes at any time?

yes i was at there homes and i was doing all those quests they gave me also :turned:
