Normal Map Issue

Hey Guys,

I released a reasonably successful Skyrim mod recently that looked ok but had a few normal map issues that I just couldn't figure out.

It was my first mod for Skyrim and I figured that I would learn more about it with future mods.

Now I am working on a new project and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

Here is my mesh with AO and Normals in 3ds Max Viewport:

and then in nifskope:

The way normals are displayed here I get a rather unnatractive seam and there seems to be isues with my geometry all together.

Just a few notes:

-I have used smoothing groups that match my UV islands

-I have used shared uv space on everything but the grip

I would really be greatful for any advice.

In 3DS Max, try convert the mesh to an editable poly and then back. Usually that fixes various errors in the lighting.

If that doesn't work, then in Nifskope, maybe try right-clicking on the mesh and using Mesh > Face Normals, then Mesh > Smooth Normals.

Hey billyro,

Thank you for your help with this.

I had been importing my meshes into nifskope as .obj and I think that is what was causing hte issue. I exported from 3ds Max as a .nif and I am getting results much more like what i had expected.

I think I might be able to go back and fix my pervious mod too now.
