Couldn't find this on wiki or anywhere, so thought I'd pose the Q here:

If the Sierra Madre's AI was responsible for taking the player's equipment. (Outside contamination prevention.) And Elijah had the same thing happen to him and that's why he built the holorifle. And you find his robe in the abandoned BOS bunker (and a laser rifle iirc), which seems consistent with that.

Then how did he get the robes, and especially the gauss rifle, he has when he comes down to the Vault?

The developers messed up and forgot to cover that plot hole, that's how.

Unless the Sierra Madre security had a spare Gauss rifle laying around somewhere and father Elijah was able to sew a extra set of robes from textiles found around the Villa.

1st answer: Developers forgot about it

2nd answer: Elijah examined some of the Sierah Madre vending machines and found a way to program it to make other stuff. He had obviously been examining the machine in the abandoned bunker. Perhaps he aquired one of the machines and found a way to scan or create blueprints for his robes (he didn't give himself Indestructible Adamantium Power Armor because that would be too complex, would cost too many sierra madre chips, and he just likes wearing robes over having armor). He then hid the holotapes for making them somewhere where you can't find them.

Wait, did I miss something? I seem to recall that Elijah's man-servant (DOG) took your gear, for various plot reasons, and that it's in the bunker (returned via a script). I mean, Elijah is wearing a Scribe Robe. How'd he get the vendor machines to make that?

I also seem to recall that he built the rifle himself.

Then again, I've only played the DLC once, so I may have a few things wrong. Those were my impressions. I should probably go back and listen to his speeches again.
