Can you have two NMMs' on the one computer?

During a discussion on Steam a question arose about two users not using family sharing but having to share the same computer and the use of the NMM. Is it possible for them both to have their own copy of NMM with their attendant mods on the same computer?

Please note we are NOT talking about a single user having two separate Nexus and Steam accounts. This was a theoretical question.

NMM v0.60 alpha has mod profiles, allowing multiple mod lists to select from - So player A can have one mod list, and player B a separate mod list for the same game. This is still an alpha (being tested) but if you want to participate in the testing it can be found here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/61952/?

Thanks for the reply bben46 but I'm not technically minded which is why I posed the question, but now I'm confused by your answer. Doesn't that method mean two users are sharing the same Nexus account? Is that legal and what would happen if for some unforeseen reason one user got banned, the other would lose their account as well?

If you let us know that you have 2 users, It will be noted in the file. However, often we go by IP address when checking for multiple accounts - and if your other user is using the same computer, or even another computer in the same home the IP will be the same.

OK now I feel really dumb with this question. When NMM is downloaded it does not go to a specific computer user account but just to the homes IP address? So even if there were two users in that home with two separate computers they would still only have one download of NMM between them forcing them to have the NMM profiling download?

I think I have lost track here. The initial question was posed because I have NMM on my desktop (not in the files) and I was wondering if a second user of the same computer would be able to have a copy of the NMM as well, and where it would go. Obviously the profiling would help but I thought that was not intended for different users, only for different character saves. What is to stop one user from changing the other users mods?

At this moment in time there is only one user (myself) at this IP address. I was thinking along the lines of perhaps family sharing my computer with a relative, but that's as far as it has gone. Thanks for your time and patience.

Bethsoft games make use of the obsolete Windows registry to store some part of their games in various locations on your computer - So, you could only have one Skyrim on a computer. But NMM v 0.6 allows for multiple users by treating them as separate profiles. Each profile will have it's own saves and it's own mods. I'm not sure about the ini files. But I worked out a way around that years ago on Oblivion. And uploaded it to the Nexus Oblivion site as Dual Oblivion,(still on the WIKI here: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Dual_Oblivion) however this was superseded by a much better program called mTES4Manager. But that was never brought over to Skyrim for some reason.

Here is a way to possibly handle the ini files

create your first set of ini files. and make a backup of them

Rename that set to something like ini-1

Make a new set of ini files and make a backup of them - name that set as ini-2

Now whichever user is playing have them rename their saved ini files to the in game ini file names. Just be sure to keep them straight and to keep from over writing the wrong one. I used a set of batch ( .bat) files to do the work. I also keep a third copy in a protected location just in case.

Kia ora

I don't mean to hijack this thread and I'm sorry if I should make a new one but my question is along a simalr line but a bit different.

I downloaded the 6.0 Alpha version and setupmySkyrim game with that (all 150 Plus mods) I see now that its the current standard

version that has Whiter 3 support and not the Alpha. I did download the standard version and installed it in a differem folder but it

only see's somit like 1/3rd of the mods installed. I'ts looking to me like if I want to use the standard version to get Whiter 3 support I will have to reinstall ALL my mods using that version as it does not look like theres a way to export the install data and reimport it into another install.

My guestion is I guess have I missed do I not know of a feature somewhere in NMM that I can use to resolve this. If you said go

download the latest copy of 6.0 Alpha we added Whiter 3 support to it's I be a happy happy chappie lol, (Dreams are free right lol)

@bben46. Sorry for not answering your last post earlier but have had multiple problems with my phone and internet connections over the last two weeks which was not helped by Telstra using an oversea call centre for trouble shooting! Irrelevant to the problem I know <sigh>. I suppose I will wait a bit longer for the Alpha NMM profiling to become more stable and review the situation in a couple of months.

I have made a note of your link and .ini suggestion. Thanks again for your time and patience, it was much appreciated.
