Adding Respawn Flag on Actors without a new game

First I hope this is the right forum, I'm not really sure where it should go but since this is a question and answer section it felt like the best choice, anywho.

 

In my current save I noticed NPCs added by a mod incorrectly lacked respawn flags, I fixed this with TES5EDIT already. But my question is can this take affect in my save even though the actors in question already died, or will I need to uninstall the mod, clean save, and reinstall it to sort it out? As far as I knew the latter would be the required solution, but I'm hoping I might be wrong so I thought it was best to ask.

Where are the NPCs? A cell belonging to the mod or a vanilla one? Is it set to respawn? Are the original NPCs set to unique or are they generic levelled baddies that show as "M" in the creation kit?

 

The answer is that depending on what type of npcs they are and what type of cell they were originally in they might respawn or they might not when the cell itself respawns. You can always use the resetinterior and pcb console commands on the cell they are in to find out if it works.

 

You don't need to reinstall the mod though. All you need to do is make sure you load a save from before you meet any of the npcs in game. Their respawning and other stats are set in your save file when you first enter the cell in which they exist, not when the mod is loaded. Does that make sense?
