Which Desktop is Best for Gaming?

Recommended Posts

Hello again, I have decided to get a totally new desktop because my current one isn't exactly ideal for gaming, and with FO4 coming out soon I would like to get my hands on it asap. I don't know a great deal about specs and their contribution to getting the games running best (didn't do much IT in my school growing) and I preferably like to get the latest and best performing systems at a reasonable price, so I provided a short list of a few I got my eye one if someone would be kind enough to have a quick glance? Then I can think about getting it within the next month

Here is a list, forgive some unnecessary details I just copy and pasted specs:

I'm no tech guru, but the 4th one looks the best to me. That processor seems pretty capable, and the GTX 960 is a pretty powerful card. Also, 2TB storage (no SSD though). I can't say for certain the rest of the peripherals, but they seem adequate as well.

Also, keep in mind that Bethesda is working with Nvidia, so their cards are much more likely to work well with Fallout 4.

But just to be on the safe side, perhaps wait until someone else can chime in. But if it were me, I'd probably go with number 4.

Cool thanks I figured Nvidia was the way to go, especially after struggling to get Skyrim effects working on my AMD graphics. Well that's gonna be the one I pick so far unless someone else can argue otherwise...and not try to sway me into buying an expensive one

PC conf. 1 + 2 -> Seems the same to me. (on die GPUs, worse game performer)

PC conf. 3 -> This GPU is not 1080p gaming capable, considering today's gaming market.

PC conf. 4 -> Decent GPU but weaker CPU compared to the i3-4170 and i3-4150

PC conf. *5 -> Decent CPU and GPU as well.

PC conf. *6 -> Almost identical CPU performance with the (i3-4170) but way slower GPU. (GTX 960 > GTX 750Ti)

Pc conf. 7 -> Identical CPU as the PC conf. 5 but slower GPU. (GTX 960 > GTX 950)

*Also to mention all two processors (i3-4150 ans i3-4170) are dual core processors with hyper threading. (2 cores / 4 threads)

The fastest PC configuration without a doubt is number 5: Zoostorm Gaming & Media Desktop PC

I saw the report for the suggested C P U and it's a 3.6 GHz.

The price of a NVidia 970 GeForce GTX dropped a hundred dollars and is well worth it.

If you want lightning speed in game play an SSD is a must to give it the zip which no 7500 RPM Hard drive can muster. All the MoBO, videocards with fast GPU and lots of RAM on them, along with the minimum of 8 GB of RAM, and a Quad Core CPU 3.6 GHz will not make the play best it the hard drive can't go faster the 7500 RPM.

An SSD is equal to the rest which have the rating over 7 to maxed 7.9 for your machine.

A 7500 RPM Hard Drive will get the rating dropped to 5.9 for best performance. Unless you find a 10,000 RPM Hard drive; go with an SSD.

Now that I look at it again, yeah, number 5 looks better than 4. Intel processors are better than AMD processors, from what I've heard.

Only issue might be the price over number 4, but it would be worth it...

Number 5 definitely. The i3's are actually much better than the lower tier AMD cpu's of the other builds. They can also hyperthread, so you're not as locked to 2 cores as it might appear.

The only "negativ" factor if you don't have an SSD drive - is, you may have longer lasting loading screens (however that depends mostly from the game engine)

...but except that, you don't have any fps advantage over an regular rotational HDD. !!! (as fps are mostly GPU related - how fast a pixel is drawing on the screen, and has nothing to do with the HDD)
