It was your decision. You bought a game that required Steam.

Just an FYI
For all who are experiencing problems with the new patch (currently 1.3.0.452)and wondering what is does to help stability this may help.
1: If anyone has edited there Fallout.ini"Game configuration" file for example (iNumHWThreads=1 for the multi core CTD issue) Change your ini. file back to how it was as per the new patch fixes that, and if you have it set to the way stated here = (http://segmentnext.c...reezes-fixes/2/) It will CTD more then before the patch 1.3. I believe the new patch fixes the Multi-core issues.
2: "May not work for all" If still experiancing problems remove the d3d9.dll from Data Folder. It was causing my game to crash after new patch. When I took it out of Data Folder it has not crashed yet after doing both steps (1) and (2). Make sure you have updated NVSE found here= http://nvse.silverlock.org/
3: If Still experiencing CTD=(Crash To Desktop) after completing both steps (1) and (2), like (Weird Transparent Body on NPC or player, CTD when loading new cell or entering interior Cells,Game Freezing during load screens) Double check your Default Fallout.ini and make sure IFPSClamp is set 0 as it was when you installed FalloutNV. Also make sure both your Configuration Fallout_Default.ini settings are the same. Program Files / Bethesda / FalloutNV / Fallout_Default. And other is in My Documents / My Games / FalloutNV / Fallout configuration setting file (around 20kb file)
After Installing The new patch(currently 1.3.0.452) My game would CTD in under 5 mins every time. I started to trouble-shoot for many hours and finally Found the Solution. Steps 1 to 3 Fixed my game completely after the new patch. I have 85+ Mods running and my game has not crashed a single time since completing all 3 steps. Going on 5.5 Hours of game play now and still no CTD. Not to mention I can Crank my Graphic setting up and still have Clean Game-play. Loads are also much faster and Entering new Cells is not noticeable. I can Drive Full speed on my Motor Bike and my game does not CTD!! lol. The Patch does indeed Fix may stability and CTD issues and make game run smoother for me after completing those steps.
Hope this helps and saves someone the many hours it took to figure that all out
Peace

Ye but just because I want a game to wile away the few short hours I have after chasing the cheese all day I shouldn't have to be burdened with this crap, games are supposed to be fun not a humongous pain in the ass, which is about all steam is.

How many company's are involved with this game? How many way's can there be to disable this game remotely? From the store to your PC, there should be absolutely no problems for any one to deal with. What I see here is a grab for control and the source of the game is caught in the middle of this apparent war of game company controlling parties. How many company's ? Some thing to think about.

Anybody know of an archive invalidation file that wasn't broken by all the new patches?

Steam is far from perfect, but personally I don't mind it. Better than GfWL, at least...
If you don't like Steam, though, and you want the industry to stop supporting it, you (and anyone who shares your point of view) should stop buying games from Steam or that require Steam. Companies rarely care how much you complain after you've already given them your money.

Well, there's BlackIsle/Obsidian and a another defunct game company butting heads with the BethSoft corporate beast in the past about who owns 'Fallout' blah blah blah. Fast forward through the lawyers and suits and you have a brokered deal to release an unfinished 'game' using the same engine as FO3 and its game content assets, since none of the BlackIsle/Obsidian people care about releasing a functioning game on their own. And now they are charging for DLCs for an incomplete game world and clueless fans keep pumpimg money down the toilet while chanting the mantra of 'the good old days'.
So by all means..PATCH IT. Blindy trust Steam and Obsidian. They are the shizzle.

yes, Lol!, But there's more..........Microsoft ,Sony, and a few others I'll refrain from mentioning . Still, Bteh is caight in the middle of all these "GUY"S" so, yeah, anything they put out has specific targets of a default game. No mods at all. Now with all this be thrown around right now and here, you would think folks would see the light. Right? uh huh.........
