Shale problems

I hope modders and anyone who is experienced enough in making different mods coexist will notice this topic.

I have a persistent issue with Shale, and sometimes I swear that this issue has a mind of its own.

1. Applying crystals

When I apply crystals to Shale - specifically, the crystals of the same kind which should match, sometimes I don't get the item set bonus, which I notice by the lack of the green square that signifies the item set bonus.

Also, sometimes when I change crystals, the coloring of previous crystals remains on Shale's surface. For example, if the previous set was consisted of fire crystals and the new ones are nature crystals, her body still glows red - even though she's equipped with crystals that are supposed to glow green.

2. Weird snap in the cutscene

Right after acquiring Shale as a companion in Honnleath, the game opens the screen where you are able to choose a different set of companions, and presumably choose Shale among them so you could do her leveling, adjust her abilities and tactics and so on. After I do this, sometimes, right after picking the new set of companions, the game immediately switches to the very exit from Honnleath - specifically, to the cutscene where Shale squishes the hen. After that, the map opens, as if I had actually exited Honnleath, but of course I still didn't. If I click on Honnleath on the map then, the game returns me to the very spot where I found Shale, not the entrance to the village. I simply can't understand this bug or what's causing it.

3. Loading the ending

When making a save after the coronation, at the very end of the game, when I load that save Shale looks like Caridin made from scraps. And buzzing with electricity. This happens all the time. When getting to this part for the first time, she looks normal. But if I load the post-coronation save, she's distorted beyond recognition. I can talk to her, but it's no different than talking to a heap of electrified scrap metal (which only produces Shale's voice).

My main question here pertains to this: which files alter anything regarding Shale? I'm positive that some mod (or mods) are creating conflicts, and if I know which ones they are - specifically, which files in those mods, I could remove them, or at least adjust them. But I don't know which mods would affect Shale, because I never installed anything that was meant to change her in any way.

Or so I thought.

Re #1, set bonuses are buggy in general, not just for Shale. There are at least two mods that address the bug. (I use this one, but with the caveat that it can cause issues when installed alongside other mods that use EventManager.).

Re #3, I've experienced the same corruption in Shale's appearance when loading a boon ceremony save. My attempt to research and fix it only found other reports and mentions of the bug (like this). The similarity in the reports makes me doubt that it is mod-related, though.

As far as my intel goes, the corrupted Shale in the final saves (after the coronation) is a BioWare bug. Which they never quite fixed. Supposedly a reload may help (and the emphasis is on "may" here, sadly). As TheSkyMoves said, set bonuses are somewhat shifty. I never got this problem, but others do. I would suggest taking everything off and putting it on again. Regarding the transfers to Honnleath, honestly, no idea. I had enough problems with the DLC of the matter that Sulcher's Pass would not display on the map (while the items were scattered around the game from the very start; hey, I found a tier one small crystal while decapitating Vaughan), forcing me to use the console to get into the village at all. Later, everything worked... Which mods are you using, by the way? Perhaps there is something wrong with the party-picker?

As for the party-picker, I have Extra Dog slot, which didn't cause problems so far (and I downloaded my version of the mod from Bioware forum, because there were complaints about the Nexus one, e.g. the dog was dead after the Joining etc.).

As for the other mods... Hoo boy.

*blink, blink*

Huh. I can't bloody believe it. I'm sorry I wasn't the only one experiencing that horrendous image

As for set bonuses, I think I see where the bug may be... Well, nothing to do about it. I really love all the armor mods that I had installed and I can't bring myself to let them go. Sorry, Shale.

  • 3 years later...

The last official patch for DAO was in 2011, and it is very unlikely that Bioware will ever address any of the many outstanding issues with the game.

One of the fixes for the item sets bug (Item Sets Fix by didymos1120), was hosted on the old Bioware Social Networks projects site, which was eliminated several years ago.... and I cannae remember what the other community fix was. :ermm: (IIRC, a kludgy 'fix' for the item set bug is to remove and re-equip all set gear on all party menbers outside of party camps... it needs to be done every time a camp is entered and exited, though.)

well I hope that my contribution can be understood because I am a Spanish-speaking user and I am using the google translator for the text ...

in relation to the error of Shale in the town I used to happen a lot at the beginning I gave myself the task of discovering if it was for a mod and in fact I found a mod that can cause that called Mabari Maddness but I found its solution making it compatible with the Pricionero dlc Stone ... this proved that Shale appeared again in the square as well as corrected the errors of appearance in the post coronation ...

although in the list you placed I did not see this mod can cause conflicts with this dlc ... but it has its correction very easily
