GPU memory problem?

Recommended Posts

I think i have a problem with my GPU, its a Nvidia gtx 560 se (3gb)

It says 3gb vram on dxdiag i also checked display adapter properties.

But it shows only 1024mb on GTA V's settings and i think if it also affects games like skyrim,fallout4,witcher.

I tried removing the gpu and just ran GTA V with integrated graphics intel hd something.. it has 1669mb vram.

And it shows exactly 1669mb vram on the settings but it runs like s#*! without GPU ofc.

So my problem is why is it just showing 1024mb even though it has 3gb with dedicated gpu?

and 1669mb with integrated?

I've never heard of a GTX 560 with 3GB of RAM - they're 1GB cards. DXDIAG reports available video memory to the API, which includes both on-card and off-card resources (and this is normal functioning for DirectX; there is no delineation between on and off-card memory and applications do not directly access on-card memory). GTA5 probably uses a different routine to ID the card, for example it may be looking at GPUID and then pulling information from a table, or it may be polling the graphics driver for device caps, in order to report the 1GB on-card memory instead of all available memory to DirectX.

The IGP shows a different amount of memory because you're seeing whatever DVMT is allocating ++ "off-card resources" (but for Intel IGPs, excepting Crystalwell/Broadwell devices, all of their memory exists in the system's main memory - Crystallwell and Broadwell have 128MB eDRAM (like Xbox) to improve performance).
