Nightkins (retexture and possibly new race)

I started small project based on the nightkins that appear in FNV, with first goal being texture replacement for the super mutants, and second being having them as separate race with possible integration to the spawning system. I have so far made the new textures (some space for tweaking, especially with the eyes) and tested them in the game. I have done several retextures and other mods so far, so the process of replacing textures and setting things up with FO4Edit is familiar to me. However despite having the textures set like should be required I have ran into a issue: The game has successfully replaced the other textures, but the face texture remains the original despite having it in the correct directory among other textures. Besides the playing around with the actual texture, I have so far attempted to fix this without results by doing the following:

  • Changing the texture directory used by the material to another texture.
  • Changing the model to use another material.
  • Changing the used model to another in the Face Part form with FO4Edit.

Considering this, I can't really think about any other cause for the issue than that the game doesn't want to replace the facial textures, materials or meshes for some reason. Any ideas on what might help to fix it are welcome.

Update:

Noticed that the game actually loads it for the loading window model (http://imgur.com/uNetRn3), meaning that it's partially working, but not affecting the in game face models.

I'm not quite sure I'm sorry. I've been taking a look through FO4Edit though and I wonder if it's got anything to do with the record.

SkinSupermutantHead [TXST:001284D9]

which instructs the program to use 'actors\supermutant\SupermutantFGHead1.BGSM' as the material.

This may be preventing the game from recognizing an alternate material that you specify. That's all I've been able to find so far though.

That same material is already set for the model in the head .nif, and has the SupermutantHead_d/s/n.dds's set as textures, so it should use the same texture I've modified anyway. I tried removing the facegen flag from the DNAM, and setting specific textures to the slots, however this had no apparent effect. Thanks anyway.
