I think people should figure things out for themselves and read the README. More often

Furthermore... I think there is the problem of people installing mods, and not bothering to read the README.txt

The README.txt has most problems sorted, whether you realize it or not.

Grrr... Honest Hearts still crashes. (As soon as Jed starts talking as you enter Zion, that is).

steam updates the game automatically unless you play it offline all the time with steam, as soon as you set steam for online it automatically patches the game

EDIT: Just a heads up, don't use timescale mods with Honest Hearts, cus thats what causes it to crash...
