In Dead Money, I have managed to get Dog into the right location to manipulate the switch gear. Problem is he won't stay there. I looked at a walkthrough for advice and it showed a range of conversation choices which I don't get when we talk.
Most involve getting him something to eat. But without the conversation to trigger the mini quest I can hunt down and kill plenty of the trappers and nothing happens? I need to get him to activate the switches so I can move on.
Any ideas? Have I missed something somewhere?

It was my understanding that you needed God to activate the switches.

You do have to talk to god to get the food quest or get him to do the switches, just use the voice recording you pick up in the police station.
