I have zero experience in modding/editing the game so bear with me;
Is it possible to modify an existing item to have the apperance of an NPC's item?
Namely to change the Robe of Unblemished Cleanliness to look like Anders' white robe?

Cheers :)

Yep possible. Just note that the companion armor should have the same body type for the easy modding procedure.

In your example, the modded robe will work on male human Hawke only.

It is also possible to resize armors to match the body types but I hear its a painful job without toolset update. ishmaeltheforsaken, tmp7704, TnT and other talented modders have good experience in these area.

The toolset wouldn't help any with modeling work. That's all done in Lightwave/Max/whatever. But your point remains: it's rather tedious :P

@OP: yes. It'd be very easy. But... white robe? Anders doesn't have a white robe :/

The white Ander's robe is a mod by Aremeta.

You are better off requesting replacers on non DLC items or a standalone armor piece from the above author since his permission is required for modifications on his mod.

No, I wasn't asking for that white robe mod, I mean the first robe Anders uses before he upgrades to the darker one; this one:

Anyway, any tips on how to do it then? What should I use, is there a tutorial available, etc?

That is not white and the tutorial you want is posted in a pinned thread in this section. You might have to bear with the research and lack of spoon feeding.

I completely forgot this was the section titled Dragon Age 2 Mod REQUESTS... but no worries, even my spoon fed mind got around to reading the above thread and doing it myself.

You asked a question, it was answered despite the confusion. You asked for a tutorial, a link was provided. Glad to have helped, don't mentioned it.
