Wasn't Dead Money a horrible DLC?

It wasn't that difficult for me and I enjoyed the story behind it more than any of the other DLCs. The cloud/speakers were a problem the first time but once you get used to them its no big deal. I played it on hardcore mode my first time and every time since then and I barely noticed the constant health loss at all. You just have to check every single container for cigaretts and clothes to turn into the vending machine so that you can buy stimpacks/ammo. I managed to keep my hunger and thirst level low just by finding random pre war food and water laying around. I didn't take all the gold bars because it kind of cheapens the whole point of the DLC imo.

ROTFL, It's easy to tell by reading the comments, who is old enough/enough of a movie buff, to have seen the movie they were working from, "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre." I'm not old enough to have actually seen it in the theater, but am enough of a Bogart fan to have watched it many times.

Seriously, if you haven't seen the movie, do not walk, run to rent a copy and watch it. It's a great film.

Yes... yes it was.

As much as I liked the atmosphere and the story and the characters the game play killed it for me. By the time I had found all the "Collars" I was wishing for the end, by the end I was wishing I had never gone down into that bunker...

So happy I waited to get all the DLC in a GOTY edition!

I have very mixed feelings about Dead Money.

On the one hand, the story and the characters are great. The main plot I just love. You have been tricked and forced into helping another man break into the Sierra Madre for the sake of retrieving the advanced technology the place harbors. You have t recruit and assist others that take part in it, each with their own story. I found all the characters interesting, the back-story was enjoyable. Christine and Dean Domino especially were great characters.

But the gameplay was at times just.... *sigh* it made me want to scream in frustration. First off, sneaking around the ghost people was impossible (I like to play stealthy characters). Second off, around the villa there wayyyyy too many bear traps. I swear I got so many crippled legs it's unreal. Challenge is one thing, but eventually it just got repetitive and annoying. The need to avoid or destroy radios/signal emitters was fun at first but after a while just got tedious and annoying.

Inside the hotel, things picked up somewhat. It was kind of fun. The ending was pretty intense and I liked it, but when I learned you couldn't return, that annoyed me. Why include all those gold bars and items if claiming them all is impossible without cheats or mods???

Basically, great story, repetitive and terrible gameplay.

Dead Money was a life lesson, a metaphor, a homily that was all about "letting go".

It was designed as such that you couldn't get all the loot and get out. You had to learn to just walk away which is what Father Elijah couldn't & wouldn't do and thus it was his doom. Sure there are ways in which you can cheat or fix it so you get the gold but that misses the point of the story. Dean had to let go of his obsession of being able to rip off Sinclair, Dog/God needed to let go of their war with one another and merge into a new being while Christine needed to let go of her need for vengeance on Elijah and let the courier deal with him.

Yes the radios were annoying and the cloud constantly draining you was also testing but for my money that added to the whole experience, not detracted from it. What was annoying was having God mutter constantly about ripping my arm off to get the pipboy. I felt that was over the top and he lived only because if I killed him I'd die as well.

I'd rate it as the 2nd best in the series of DLC's with Old World Blues being the best, Lonesome Road coming in 3rd and Honest Hearts for the least enjoyable of all the DLC's.

Gah, You guys are lucky, My Dead Money is bugged so I can't even get into the casino. I went in and accidentally pressed E on the gate again, It sent me back to the villa, and now I can't go into the casino. I press E on the gate to the casino, the message about not being able to return comes up, I choose to continue and go to the casino, the menu closes and nothing happens? Any tips?

*EDIT* Sorry for this post, I believe it may have been thread necromancy, correct me if I am wrong *EDIT*

If Dead Money was a lesson in letting go, I never bothered to learn it. I actually managed to walk out with all the gold bars, after about 20 attempts. I didn't have the advantage of console commands seeing as I played it on the 360, so I had to resort to a walkthrough on the Fallout wiki.

In the end it doesn't really matter, selling the gold bars is time consuming and difficult seeing as few people have the caps to take them off your hands.

All in all I think Dead Money was good, but the constant red Cloud in the exteriors made the environment rather repetitive.
