Oblivion & Wrye Bash Startup crash issue

First time poster, so we'll see how this goes. I'll do my best to provide the info I can.

I am having some trouble running Oblivion after installing Wrye Bash into the system. It is the latest version of Wrye Bash (v294) as well as the latest Oblivion patch (1.2.0416) so, that shouldn't be the issue.

I guess I'll just go into describing the symptoms.

I just re installed Oblivion and started looking into the mods for the game. A few of the mods which didn't require Wrye Bash to run ran just fine when I copied the (.bsa/.esp) files into the "data" folder in the Oblivion directory. From the launcher I'd simply enable the mods and it'd be fine.

Then I ran into the "Immersive Interiors" and "All Natural" mods - Which I know are tied together (All Natural being a "Master" file I believe). These require Wrye Bash to run, so I decided to check that out as well.

Basically, after uninstalling and re installing Oblivion probly 6 times now I've narrowed it down essentially to when I copy the Wrye Bash "Mopy" folder into the Oblivion directory. I even left out the "data" folder and didn't merge the WB and main Oblivion Data directory together, but simply having the Mopy folder and even attempting to run Wyre Bash will now cause Oblivion to crash upon start up.

If I run the launcher and have all mods disabled, it still crashes. If I run the OBSE loader, I see a quick flash of a DOS screen and then nothing, and if I just run Oblivion.exe; Nothing happens.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit and Oblivion is installed into my user directory (out of Program Files which has some UAC issues that I already troubleshot through).

Is there any other info that is required? If so, please let me know...

For all you Oblivion gurus and computer masters out there..... Please Help! :)

Cheers,

>>Mars out.

Oh and I've used the Wyre Bash Standalone (which is apparently recommended) as well as the "archive" version.

There are a couple of things to look at here. First off just installing Wrye Bash won't cause your game to not load. Have you run BOSS to get your load order right? This is usually the case for mod issues showing up as some mods like to be loaded before others. Also, mod installation order might come into this depending on the mods. I would start by looking at Wrye's beginners guide to get an idea how to bash the patch and how to flag mods for what is needed.

Read the readme files from the mods. They may have information on what tags to set for Wrye. Once the tags are set, (they are sometimes automatically set) then you can bash the patch. Remember, run BOSS then Wrye Bash.

I have run into the same problem with the latest version of Wrye Bash. :/ Oblivion would crash AND Wrye Bash would not detect my Data folder. Never figured out what the problem was.

Found a fix though. I found an older version of Wrye Bash online (285) and it works flawlessly. I guess give that a try?

I choose to use the Python version over the standalone. Personal choice and it works like a charm.

EDIT: Just read this on the Wrye Bash download page -

If Oblivion is crashing on load and all you've done is run Wrye Bash, you may be affected by a strange problem for which we have not yet tracked down the cause. If you have a bit of time and want to help us get this fixed, please contact tesmyk here on TESNexus or myk002 (yeah, still me) on the Bethesda forums. if you just want to recover so you can play, first, try disabling all mods, keeping only Oblivion.esm active. If Oblivion still crashes on load, please uninstall Wrye Bash and Oblivion (keep your savegames!), reinstall Oblivion, and install Wrye Bash version 291.1 (available in the "old versions" section of the Files tab). There are relatively few people who are affected by this, but at this point there doesn't seem to be any apparent pattern. Either you are affected or you are not, though. It doesn't seem to change for a particular computer. The problem is not very widespread, but it is annoying for the people it does affect. I think Telyn put it nicely:

Could this be the problem you are having?

Wow, quick response.

I hadn't heard of BOSS until just now, I suppose it would be an understatement to say I am a "n00b" to Modding in general, especially Oblivion.

I downloaded BOSS and ran it, but I am a bit confused on how/what it is to be displaying. It simply pops up with a relatively blank HTML/Text based script. Even when I run Oblivion before or after loading up BOSS.

I just found a chat feature in this forum and I am there now -- If you have time you we could trade back comments back and forth there, if not I am unsure where to go from here. I've got a fresh install of Oblivion waiting with no mods or even Wyre installed in it, so I am eager to figure this little snag out.

Thanks,

>>Mars out.

The chat is usually not the best place to ask for help as the people who can help the most are usually not on chat at that exact time (if at all). The forums allow a question or problem to be posted, then answered when the person who does know the answer checks the forums. Unlike some forums, we do have an active posts feature that allows troubleshooters to quickly scan through all posts to find those that they can help without having to read through the hundreds of posts they are not interested in.

Chat is orientated toward casual 'chatting' and the casual chatters tend to resent people taking over the chat to troubleshoot. I have banned several people for getting upset and making comments that were totally out of line when they were ignored by the people on chat for demanding that someone help them with an obscure problem that the chatters on line at that time probably knew nothing about.

If I had been up still I might have taken you up on the chat, or at least through private messages :) However I didn't realize that there were issues with Wrye Bash that might cause this.

As for BOSS, all it is for is to sort out your load order. At the top it has several areas that it checks and the important one is the number of errors it found. If you scroll through the page errors will be highlighted in red. By highlighted I mean it will look like someone took a red magic marker and used it to highlight the text. Other than that BOSS isn't going to be doing much. If you only have Oblivion installed, it won't have much to say, but if you have 100+ mods, it will have quite a bit to tell you including some suggestions on bash tags for the mod files.

I'm being afflicted by the exact issue as luxwing quoted it :( I had thought I had tried using 291.1 (as opposed to 265 or 295, the other two versions I have downloaded), but I'll give it another shot now. Fortunately Oblivion is a relatively quick install.

Funny thing is this is pretty much exactly as OP said too, I'm trying to get Wrye Bash to work almost solely for AN and II :P
