The radio doesn't play, what to do? Here are some common issues and solutions.
1st Problem: songs are not named as supposed
In order to play all songs your mp3s must fit into the naming scheme which is as follows:
01, 02, 03, 09, 10, 11, 99, 100, 101, until 500
Note, that the file extension ".mp3" might be shown if you enabled this in your operating system.
In that case they are named 01.mp3, 02.mp3 etc.
Don't delete the file extension ".mp3".
2nd Problem: file format is not as supposed to be
The file format must be mp3 and it must have a constant bit rate (cbr) of 128 - 256 kbps.
I'd suggest to use 192 or 224 kbps for all mp3s.
- Constant Bit Rate (cbr)
- Bit Rate: 128 - 256 kBit/s
- Sample Rate: 44100 Hz
- Sample Size: 16 bit (mp3 standard, most converter doesn't even have an option to change)
- Channels: 1 (mono) or 2 (stereo)
3rd Problem: holes in the play list
If you want to use 20 songs, set your "Song Limit" to 20.
The default setting is 50, ready to use for the main file which includes 50 songs.
If there's a mp3 missing or wrong named between 01 and the "Song Limit", the playback will halt if it reaches the missing song number.
However, in that case you always can resume the playback by doing this:
- open the RACE apparel item
- go to "options", "Define your Limits!" and set it to the amount of songs you are actually using
- go back to the main menu and open the "Pick a Song!" menu
- here choose the entry "Restart Playback" and then click "Play Now!"
This should help you out of most of the trouble.
Additional info
Variable Bit Rates cause jumping playback and cut off songs. That's why it is suggested to convert your custom music selection in the very first place.
Nevertheless, there are some folks having occasional cut offs even if they used the correct file format.
MP3Tags will cause trouble in some cases, so it's suggested to remove them. (see second post)
This thread is open for questions and tips all around converting MP3s and sound issues.
- If you encounter jumping songs or if they just cut off sometimes, post your used encoder setting, conversion program and maybe even your operating system.
- Music generally is being streamed a few seconds. So if you replace your mp3s, the first time you load the game, the last song which has been streamed in memory will most likely cut off after a short while.
- If you don't have any issues, your opinion is of interest as well.
Thanks for reading and and your time. May it help to address such issues.
