That's right my chest is empty so I can't retrieve my gear, yet when I open it I get the update "Optional: Retrieve Items complete" for my quest log Anybody more than me that has problems with this quest? I've tried a previous save but the problem remains. It seems like I'm stuck in the storyline till' a patch fixes it.

It's optional so perhaps I'll get my stuff back when I leave the Manor if I never open the chest.

I got it all back after finishing the quest.

I'm having a different problem, during it I cannot talk to Delphine, because she is hostile and keeps trying to kill me :\

Umm you talking about the chest in the manor? Only stuff that you gave to the guy (I guess you gave him nothing lol) in town before the party will be in that chest and you get the rest back after the mission in the chest in the secret room of Delphine's under riverwood inn. Think this is a case of PEBKAC and not a game bug

I think what you meant to say is:

"That is an easy mistake to make as TWO characters on this quest will ask for your inventory items, and both will return the items at different stages of the quest. Malborne's chest will be empty if you didn't give him any items during your meeting in The Winking Skeever. Your main inventory items will be returned at the end of the quest by Delphine. Just continue on using your Dovokin skills and cunning and you should complete this quest no prob." Let he who has never screwed up a quest cast the first chaurus egg.
