Hey all, just finished the quest in Markarth that you basically have to do, and now that i have finished it, the guards tell me the same thing that they did during the quest, only now it won't let me go to jail, they just continue attacking me, so now, no matter what i do, i am constantly under attack whenever i go back. So i hope there is something i can do to stop this? Anyone have any idea what i might be able to do to make this stop?? I play for the xbox 360.

The quest said he had taken the blame for my deeds and i was no longer a wanted man. but oh freaking god yes i am-.-'''''''

I am also having this issue. It's making it impossible to complete quests. I think it has something to do with me resisting the arrest initially, killing a ton of guards and then finally submitting to arrest...

Has anyone got a fix?

Alright guys. I previously had this problem but I fixed it. I don't have a definitive fix or a succinct way to ensure that it will work. I will just tell you exactly what I did which made the problem go away. I entered the Markarth Ruins (the ones you went through when escaping from the mine) and ran all the way back to where I was held captive. There was nobody there. I ran back through the ruins and re-entered Markarth. Two guards spotted me and began attacking me (I had went through the dreaded bugged guard dialogue before entering the ruins.) I evaded the two guards and they chased me into The Warrens. I killed the both of them in The Warrens and some extra guy that was looking for a fight. After I killed everyone two people walked into The Warrens (poor people) and were acknowledging my escape from the jail with the forsworn, etc. After exiting The Warrens there were no guards left in the city and everything was the way it SHOULD have been after completing the quest. I'm not sure which parts of my story are actually relevant or helpful, all I know is that is what I did and the problem was fixed.

I think the bug was caused because when I exited the mine with the forsworn and they were killing guards, I left the city and didn't talk to anyone in the forsworn after the massacre. Ah well. All I know is that is how I fixed it. Take what you will from my post.

Thanks for the advice Kidmoyer, I'll give it a bash and report back if it works!

Okay, that didn't work however I went on a rampage, killed 6-7 guards and then went back to the Shrine of Talos, spoke to the guard who initially tries to arrest you (the one who talks about pinning everything on you) and some different dialogue came up. If you choose to go to jail, you're stuck in there because there are no people and the gates require a key. My only option was to give him the 7k bounty and this seemed to work.

So that's another fix, I'm a bit gutted I've lost 7k for the bounty (I guess I could have loaded a previous save to see if that works) but I'm free at last!

This seriously needs fixing though, it's probably one of the worst bugs I've come across in a game >.<

Well i had the same problem and so i did Stormcloak quests. There's one where you have to take over a keep which is in the Markarth area. After that all the guards are replaced with Stormcloaks and the problem is solved.

Don't know what happens if you join Empire thou...

Thanks a lot! I had the same issue and googled it for two evenings. I never thought about Shrine of Talos, thanks for tip. I've lost ~9k gold, but finally nobody try to kill me in Markarth :)

Enter Markarth get arrested by the guards and go to prison, in the prison start pickin at the silver ore and now u can skip the arresttime.

Hope this will work for u too and sorry for my bad English

Just figured this out. Do paycrimegold in console and it should fix the issue.

Well, I did everything that you all said and it still doesn't work for me. When I do "paycrimegold" the guard says "ok" and come again 1 second later. Because of this, I can't make Sombrage's quest...
