I have been having a problem with oblivion crashing. If i do anything before i launch oblivion the game will always crash, but it will load my save and it will be fine until i try to load a different cell then it will crash. If i restart my computer and open oblivion right away, then it will play just fine.
If you could help me that would be great.
sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

Try checking your graphics settings against what your machine is actually able to produce. I have a fairly decent pc, but if I turn Oblivions video settings up too high, with grass, and shadows and everything, it will load and then as soon as I move or even if I just stand there until the wind blows, the game crashes.

i don't think the problem is the graphics, because if i start up my computer and don't do anything before i play oblivion, it works perfectly fine. It just gets really annoying to to have to restart my computer if i want to check my email or something before i play oblivion. I can't figure out why doing something before loading the game would have any affect at all.

hmm... strange... what stuff have you tried to do before playing Oblivion? Also, do you have any other software running in the background that might be causing the problem?

if i do anything on the internet, other than that i am not sure what programs cause it. As far as programs running in the background, i have no idea. I don't know if certain programs keep running in the background after i go on the internet, but if i don't go on the internet oblivion seems to work just fine. this also happens when i play starwars battle front. I am not sure if it is only the internet that makes it do this, but checking my email is one of the first things that i do when i get on my computer.

The next time you start your system, before you do anything, check the Applications tab of your Task Manager to see if any big programs autostart when you boot. Then go on the net, check your mail, do your business, whatever. When you are finished, check your Task Manager again and see what, if anything new has opened and continued to run after you shut off the interweb. If there is something big running, combined with Oblivion, it could be overloading your processor, which would make Oblivion skip and/or freeze and cause a crash.

Ah, good. Just for future reference, what program was it that was causing the problem?
