I retired from FPS competition recently and started playing single player games. Mostly because of age, it's tough to keep up with with the younger players who have excellent hand to eye skills. I always played as a female because the Hit Box is smaller then the males in most games. Yes, a lot of games have corrected this issue, but in the beginning it was a great advantage. I'm playing Skyrim as a male character, but find myself working on getting Lydia to look more sexy then playing the game! Edited by Yikorzel

I find females to be attractive and males to not be, I also happen to look like a viking myself so playing as a male character feels boring and everyday despite the lack of dragons in my life. If I am going to be staring at the back of a character for 100+ hours I prefer it to be amusing. Besides, big, brawny men have killed like this for eons before "civilization" but half-naked chicks have not....too bad too.

P.S. I didn't read all the other comments so if I just repeated previous responses then I guess I'm not alone.

TBH, I play both, but when I'm taking screenshots for my mods, well, sex sells. There's a reason there are pretty girls in ads, and not some hobo-looking guy with a huge unkempt beard. So, hey, if it works for Coke and cars, it should work for my swords too :P

But, I have to have a character that's high enough level to get them, so that means females first. I COULD just use the console to change sex for the screenshots, but it takes me an hour or two to get the exact face I want on a new character, and, well, screw that, I'm not going to do that each time I want to take a screenshot.

Mind you, I'm also not completely sold on the "sex sells" idea either. Most of the ones for Skyrim were in a renaissance jack of plates armour, followed by a couple in full plate. Not the least, because I like my armour realistic when I play the game, and my character concepts tend to be more like elegant than fan service, so chances are I won't have a chain bikini in the backpack at the moment. Or to put it otherwise, my female character concepts are more along the lines of brain surgeon: giving free lobotomies in .44 magnum, courtesy of Messrs Smith and Wesson, purveyors of fine brain surgery implements since 1852 ;) Or in Skyrim with a flanged gothic mace.

Then there is the problem that well, while Bethesda is truly egalitarian: everyone is butt-ugly, regardless of gender, race, faction affiliation, religious beliefs, etc :P the modders are not. People come up with better female faces (I don't care much about the improved bodies, since, as I was saying, there's not much of that visible) months or even years before some equal quality male faces. Well, according to my tastes, anyway. In Fallout, I even ended up doing my own male faces mod, because none of the existing ones were exactly what I wanted.

Haircuts too. While technically there are fairly equal numbers of male and female haircuts in mods, IMHO most of those are rather niche. I mean, I'm not dissing them. If you want a Sephiroth-style bishounen guy, then you're well taken care of. A few of other concepts too. But I kinda find it hard to get one that looks right for the kind of male characters I have in mind. I guess it's a matter of culture too. You don't need any particular justification to put an elaborate coiffure on a female. If you want a perm or bangs or pigtails or whatever, it just looks good. On most males it just looks out of place in the modern day western culture :P

So again, if I want some good looking character to pose my weapons on, females are the easy option.

I mean no offence but playing one or two saves with a female character yeah sure. Some people walking around with their female characters in these skimpy outfits just make me think geek/nerd. I mean yeah dressing up a character with barely anything may seem amusing but over an extended period of time of looking at outfit mods and saying phwoar thats beautiful, just makes me think theres something to hide. It is only my opinion.

I play as male and make them either bad ass good, pure evil or honourable good. The only reason why I'd play as a female is something different I guess to what I usually play but I would keep at it.

Can't say I've ever done that... well, to game characters anyway, but thanks for the lulz! ;D

To be honest, I'm on the side where if I'm going to be playing a character for ages and seeing their back/backside, I'd prefer them to be decent looking and just interesting in general. You can't get any male on Skyrim to properly look young at all. They all look late middle aged. Can't make them look cool n' stuff either, lol. I can't relate to that at all. Not that I can relate females, but you know what I mean...
