i tried installing the 4gb mod to stop CTDs, which have been happening regularly after fasttravel with no mods installed at all. Now regardless of how i launch skyrim (tesv, through steam, or skyrim4gb) i cannot load any previous saves. i can start a new game but if i try to load previous saves it CTDs right after loading screen. i would prefer to fix rather than just reinstall with no mod, any thoughts

Have you checked to see if your saves are in the correct folder under "My Documents>Games>Skyrim"?

The LAA/4GB loader should not be able to break your older saves done before you tried it. So if you launch Skyrim via Steam normal way a save that was done before using 4GB should work. If not, something else is wrong. It's more likely to break saves by changing uGrids in Skyrimprefs.ini and then changing back or reset settings, so you haven't been tweaking or using someone else INI-files? Even so, an older save should work with INI-files reset, similar to with 4GB.

There was a guy who mentioned problem with a save in the comments, but he was able to load an older save it was just his last that became corrupt (which might have nothing to do with 4GB, just unknown).

if you were crashing at fast travel b4 the 4 gig launcher that could be from broken saves... well thats what happen to me anyways and that was b4 I used the 4 gig launcher.. you'll have to go a few saves to find one unbroken and start from that point... the same corrupt save game/fast travel is nothing new it use to happen in Oblivion as well.
