these lines I added to skyrim.ini

[screenSplatter]

bBloodSplatterEnabled=0

I don't know why this would cause the map/game to crash, but removing these lines solved the problem. Took me an hour to find that out...

Hope this can help others, or maybe it just crashes for me

Thank you for posting this! It would have taken me forever to find that on my own.

FYI: There are many, many mods that let you control the amount of blood in various ways. Because this doesn't work, do the same thing through mods. Here are some links:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=60 -Seems to give the most flexibility in adding blood, but not much options for removing different types of blood.

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=107 -I'm using this one, and no problems so far.

There are probably a few others, but those were the easiest for me to find. Each is slightly different, so look through them for whatever suits your tastes.

AnyColour, is your issue a straight-to-desktop crash, or more like the stuff in this thread? Also, if you add the line to your skyrim.ini file (except change the 0 to 1), you can see if that fixes it... though it probably work, its a quick thing you can try.
