Why is my face turning grey and how do I fix it? The problem doesn't seem to present itself in high light level areas, but out of the light, my body texture maintains the correct skin tone, while my face turns a dull greeny grey color. Relevant mods are as follows:

4uDIKs' Retexture - Nude texture based on Thepal's mesh. (For some reason this mod is not currently available on the Nexus.)

MrLenski's Coverwomen - Using make up look 3 'soft'.

More Freckles by Zhoken - Cute, across the nose texture.

And various mix and matched eye textures.

(All mods installed by manually copy pasting into their relevant folders.)

The hair/ eye/ freckle textures probably aren't important but I'm including anything that might might be useful, as if someone can help me solve this I'll be in heaven. See pic and you'll understand why this is driving me up the wall. Thanks in advance for any help.

She really is quite pretty when she doesn't look this dead.

Might be worth pointing out I have the coverwomen mod installed for females of every non beast race, might that be leading to conflicts? To quote the creator of the mod

"I recommend install some part of mod, for example: use only elf textures in order to avoid women - clones"

Though I'm not sure exactly what they mean by that, I believe English is not their native tongue.

Removing textures of none human females made no difference, here's another shot half in/ half out of the sun. The matching of color between face and body seems very dependant on the light, if this is actually the problem then what changes should I make to the lighting?



Being under completely dull lighting (like a rain storm) also usually results in the face and body matching better.



Really don't know what to do about this .

I still haven't set aside time for this, I've seen a few similar threads.
It really sounds like the game stores the composite texture from character creation in the save file. What with the mention of removing face textures with no result and all.

Sounds like you're planning to look into a fix, which is good to hear. swapping textures out for a completely different mod made no difference whatsoever to the dull lifeless look. This is definitely a game problem for some people and not a mod problem as a lot of people complain these face mods are too shiny.

Ok, so this was bugging me. Face textures aren't stored in the save file, I did some mangulation to the textures, made a char, removed the textures, reloaded the game. The result was that the game reverted back to using the stock textures.



Yet a few of you are having issues, so there's something in what you've done to your game. Are you running any postprocess mods?

AlexNord the problem I had was with NPC's head modding. It was corrected when the esm/esp hair values matches the facegeom's NPC meshes.

By your screenshots, it resembles the problem I had with incorrect Alpha and Color values when face parts are switched. Could be face and texture mods, remove them and try Bella Better Females, see if it goes away.

The character shown is your Player Character I presumed? The color and alpha values might be stored in the save file. I am still trying to decipher the save file, various sites are also attempting it, but the details you need is still out of reach.

Are you running any postprocess mods?

Just various .esp mods and a bunch of retextures.

I didn't check, I did make changes to the shadow settings in SkyrimPrefs, and switched in some alternative face textures which made no change. I then removed all the face mods and saved over my game with the default textures. (When the textures were the default ones the problem went away but of course the features were too blocky.)

Here's the interesting part, I decided to leave my setup as it was in my original post, and wait for a fix, that way I knew I had the mods I wanted installed. I completely deleted the Data folder in my Skyrim directory and copied in a backup with the textures I had before, as well as swapping in a backup of the SkyrimPrefs.ini in My Documents (at this point everything is identical to when I posted about my problem) and when I loaded up, the colors in her face were correct, and while there's always a seam between the neck and the body it was far less obvious.

So for some reason 'problem solved', for now. Even though I have no idea what fixed it.

I am having this exact problem. For some reason Steam re-installed and activated Bethesda HD Textures without me knowing and ever since then I haven't been able to fix the faces in my game even though I inactivated the HD textures. It is definitely a conflict with data saved somewhere else. I re-installed my body textures and got some of the color back in the face, but there is still a extremely noticeable neck seam that wasn't there before. I am determined to find the answer to this problem!

Reading this thread with interest.
I have same problem, exactly the same as the two players posting here. In indirect bright light my characters face goes grey - which in Skyrim's landscape is most of the time. If geographically low light is directly on her it isn't as obvious (sunrise, sunset), indoors it hardly shows, and indoors next to a fire she looks lovely.
I have tried all sorts of things. Tweaked shadows. Messed around with weight and re saves. Removed the mods, deleted the mesh and textures to force the default bethesda ones back. Even removed everything to do with the game from my PC and reloaded the game on a clean install - As soon as I load a face mod the problem returns. It's not my system which is plenty big enough to run this game highly modded.
I have tried with Bella's and Coverwoman with exactly the same result. Currently have Coverwomen & UNP Diamonized body Main with the supposed better neck fix (Still got a very visible seam).
The womenfolk in game also have the greyed out faces, some more noticeably than others and same lighting is what affects them, its not quite so bad as it has been in the past.
I have had occasional success with the NPC 'change weight clean face change weight again' fix on NPC females but have stopped doing it as realised that sometimes the problem got even more noticeable afterwards.

Would really appreciate an experienced modder looking at this problem as I know nothing at all about modding and wouldn't even know where to start.
