This topic is the main reason I am glad I made this mod. It's bringing to light something that is best gotten out of the way (if possible). The "My point of view is right, and everyone else is wrong" viewpoint. The "People should play the game the way I think they should" viewpoint.
First of all, I'm 30 years old and married. Just to get that out of the way.
Anyway, as for this beating out the great work of other modders, let's think about that for a moment. If we had to narrow down why this mod won, it would be because more people wanted it than the other mods. You might think that "sad", but it is true. Now, if that is the case, shouldn't it be the one that won FotM? I so far have not voted for an adult mod for FotM. They don't make the most difference to my game. People voting for my mod means that they did think it made more of a difference than the other mods they used. At this point, I'd like to remind you that the average age of gamers is actually 30.
As one person mentioned, there were not as many mods out in November. I had competition from three main locations. Xenius's mods (blocky faces), Skyrim HD and FXAA.
Xenius's mods are undeniably great. I use his Detailed Lips and No More Blocky Faces all the time. But, for those that are complaining that something that took only "3-10 hours of work" won, his mods would not have taken much longer (or even that long perhaps). That doesn't change the fact that they are amazing mods that are both extremely well done and keep the feel of the original game. Everyone uses Xenius's mods because they only improve, they don't change. And that is why No More Blocky Faces got my vote for File of the Month in November, despite the fact many people could create the same in 10 minutes.
FXAA I don't use. It changes the game too much for my liking, removing the original cold, foggy feel that I associate with Skyrim. That said, it is an extremely good mod that allows the user quite a bit of freedom with altering the graphics of Skyrim. But it is not for everyone. Which is why, even if it had another four weeks, it would not have overtaken my mod in votes based on the amount it was getting at the end. It did come out later, but its votes dropped off faster than my mod's.
Skyrim HD was a contender. It was the last to come out, and quickly began to overtake the other mods in FotM. A lot more work went into this mod than the others, obviously since it changed so much. I personally use this mod, especially since there is now a Lite version. But again, this mod is not for everyone. They may not like the creative changes made, or they were unable to run what I believe were much higher textures at the time (I don't think there was a lite version until after November). Skyrim HD came out 7 days after my mod. Based on its votes at the end compared to mine, it needed another couple of weeks to catch up. If both mods had have been voted on for a complete month, we would have been close.
Now, let's look at my mod. A lot of people obviously want nude mods. That is obvious. But why mine? And why vote for it? One difference my mod has from all the above apart from Xenius's is that I made it to fit in with Skyrim. I didn't alter the textures to be HD or change their style. They look like Skyrim textures. There were plenty of other nude mods, and none of the others came even close in downloads or votes. The only reason I can think for this (being the first loses its meaning eventually, and my mod is still going strong) is that it "fit". It was the choice of those that wanted something well-made that fit in with the game.
Even now my mod is popular. It has had over 20,000 downloads since I answered this interview. New body meshes have started to come out, but many people still download my mod. Why? I would say the reasons mentioned above. CBBE is very popular, but it is something I wouldn't use. Instead of skinny and large women in game, you get women who are all the same size with bigger and smaller boobs. That's not what I want from a mod. And it is not what a lot of others want either.
My mod is not perverted. Most people who use it aren't perverted. It doesn't do anything weird to the women. It doesn't give them enormous bust sizes. It doesn't even give them incredibly detailed body parts. It simply makes them nude. And anyone who thinks nudity alone is perverted probably needs to really think about things.
I don't think I've sounded particularly arrogant this post yet, so I'm going to change that now. I am a modder. And I am a damn good one. Whenever I return to the official Elder Scrolls forums after being gone for a year or two I have random people that I have never talked to saying "Welcome back, Thepal!". I put a lot of work into the mods I make, and I make them well. This was a small mod, but it was well made. And I released it knowing that there were people out there that wanted to use it. I release mods for the community. I could have made my Nude Barbie Doll mod and not released it, happy to know that it was indeed possible which was all I was seeing (I was also seeing if it was possible to change the UI and various other things at the same time).
Let's look at some of the mods I have made:
- Unofficial Morrowind Patch: Countless hours went into making this. And what does it do? It makes the game and quests actually playable, fixing hundreds (if not thousands) of bugs. And why did I release it? So that the community could enjoy the game more.
- Blank.esm/esp: For those that don't realise, making a Total Conversion requires a lot of effort sifting through the main file removing things that you don't need. I did that and released it to the community so that others could make their mods easier. Many of the great Total Conversion mods for Morrowind are created off this mod. Which again was released for the good of the community.
- Nude Females: Many people want these in their games. Personally, I installed the Nude Males mod because when I first turned back into a human from being a werewolf (after removing all my armour and clothing for immersion purposes) was disappointed when I was still wearing clothes after turning back. It didn't seem right. It is a little weird taking a bandit's armour and seeing things I don't particularly care to see, but it does add immersion for me. Some people download them for the immersion. Some download them for clothes mods. Others download them so they can kill bandits, strip their clothes, and pose them in weird positions to take screenshots. I don't really care. It is something the community wants (or if you ask anyone who actually makes clothes mods, needs). And I released it for the community.
Now that I have had my rant, which tends to be what happens when I get attacked by many random people, I think I'm done. With my post, not modding. Because there is still much more I plan to do. For the community.
