Are you running the skse_loader.exe to start the game? Simple mistake I know.. but other than having the correct version and having it installed in the correct place, it should work..

I'm getting the error, too, but only intermittently. and i am starting the game via the loader (made a shortcut to it which lives on the Desktop. issue there?). I wish there were a forum somewhere dedicated to SKSE troubleshooting; I don't want to bug the dev team with direct emails.

I'm running Win7 64, and I did install via Nexus with a folder set outside of the Program Files path.

Is there anywhere I look for debug info? thanks!

On the description page of SKSE there's instructions to verify that SKSE is running via the console in-game. Follow those steps and let us know.

I'm pretty confident that NMM doesn't install SKSE properly as the executable and the two .dll libraries belong in the root \Skyrim\ installation folder (where TESV.exe is).

SKSE should post two log files with the suffix .log0 in the \Skyrim\ folder upon being ran.

thanks for the reply! hmm a NMM relationship eh? interesting. yeah it is odd, the SkyUI itself appears fine, moving around the items works without a problem, i can select/deselect, the images of the items appear, etc. what seems to be intermittent is the warning screen that pops up on first use...or, the Filter tool at the top right doesn't work. that is, i can click in it and start typing, but the input does not show there and instead is read as input commands. e.g. i'll start typing "amulet" and by the time i hit 'A' I'm exiting the menu, which is what 'A' does normally of course :)

ok i'll check it out tonight and post whatever info i can find.

The filter not working is a sign that SKSE isn't working either. As I stated earlier there are instructions on how to determine whether or not SKSE is working via the console.

Here's how to fix it. Navigate to your \Skyrim\ folder, and make sure the following files are there: "skse_loader.exe", "skse_1_3_10.dll" and "skse_steam_loader.dll". I repeat, these belong in the \Skyrim\ folder, not the \Skyrim\Data\ folder (where NMM would place them).

yep that's what I figured, the lack of search meant SKSE was not firing up. Ok on a hunch from a post I read elsewhere (can't remember where!) I checked the folder write permissions on the \skyrim base folder and sure enough, it was marked as "read-only." Unchecked that and applied, and like magic(ka), SKSE is running fine (and reports its version from the console) and SkyUI is running well, too.

Not sure of the location of the relevant DLLs with regard to the Skyrim installation root, I can check that later today. Can you believe I have to work a day job to pay for my Skyrim addiction? the nerve!

I had the same issue with a NMM install of SKSE. I subsequently moved the files and the problem went away.

Using the same desktop launcher I am getting the SKYUI error message consistently now.

EDIT:

Also, I see no information on the SKSE page that references any console commands to test if it is running.

Google is your friend.

yeah the info is sparse there to say the least. I -think- it's in the SKSE readme (?)

anyway, go to the console and do: getskseversion or... GetSKSEVersion -- it's case-insensitive.
