I had the same issue with a NMM install of SKSE. I subsequently moved the files and the problem went away.

Using the same desktop launcher I am getting the SKYUI error message consistently now.

Also, I see no information on the SKSE page that references any console commands to test if it is running.

yeah the info is sparse there to say the least. I -think- it's in the SKSE readme (?)

anyway, go to the console and do: getskseversion or... GetSKSEVersion -- it's case-insensitive.

Based on my (very) recent experience, the command IS case sensitive.

I have run across the case sensitivity issue with other console commands to the point where I always use exact case.

Thank you for your response, however.

ok took me a few times to nail down the behavior, but here's my assessment. The intermittent nature was oddly regular..like...every other time. the 'read-only' tag assigned to the folder never changed. And from my brief research on Windows 7, UAC, etc, it seems like that flag can appear to be set even when it's not in effect. Thanks, Windows.

Anyway, whether I started the skse_loaded.exe via myself or via "run as Administrator," the first try was not successful; you could see the main Skyrim configuration window would run first, that was the first indicator. Then, getting into the game and checking via console, SKSE was not loaded. So, I'd exit the game, and do the same action again. This time, the Skyrim config window would not appear, and the game would start as expected, right at the big Bethesda logo with the Law & Order-esque dramatic sound effect: duhn duhn! Check the console, and yep, SKSE loaded fine.

At least on my system, the Steam client itself needs to be launched first. THEN, I can launch via skse_loader.exe and SKSE will load properly into Skyrim. Kind of lame of me it took several iterations before I noticed this, but there you have it. :wallbash:

so if anyone reading this has an issue where you've just started Windows, and SKSE works the -second- time you try to load it, try launching the Steam client first.

I found that to be the case as well. Thanks for sharing!
