Unable to read notes and scrolls

I can't read or take any note, and they all show up blank. I recently installed The Underground 2 and The Lost Artifacts of Morrowind. What mods do I need to move to fix this?

As a rule, I don't download attached files unless, like those being offered as mods, they've first been scanned at the source. So let me ask: are you running the Morrowind Code Patch and the Morrowind Patch Project?

 

You might also want to check out Wrye Mash. It's a utility that provides tons of useful Morrowind tools. You can copy your full mod list in loading order from it, and use {spoiler} and {/spoiler}, though with brackets, to display it.

Yes, I use both MCP and the Morrowind Patch Project, as well as Wrye Mash. However, I can't launch the game from Wrye Mash, although I changed the shortcut target as instructed.

I've never launched the game from Wrye Mash, but typically use the Morrowind Script Extender.

 

To your problem. When you state that you can't take any notes, what do you specifically mean? I don't see a journal mod in your list, such as Journal Enhanced, or the ability to create books, such as Writing Enhanced. For the rest, do you mean that if you open any book, its contents are blank?

I can read and take books, but the notes show up blank when I look at them, and I can't close or take them.

When did you start having this problem? If it was after a few mods were installed, logic would suggest unchecking those mods and seeing if that fixes the problem.

 

I'm wondering if Library Portable could be interfering. It absolutely shouldn't, but it's also worth unchecking temporarily to see if that makes a difference. Make sure you don't save over your last save once you've uncheckd these mods, either.

I found the answer - it's the Morrowind Patch Project 1.6.5 beta that is causing the notes to be blank. However, there is a fix - BTB has his own edited version of the patch, where the bug is omitted.

Makes sense...but here's a little snag for me: I already have the BTB version of the mod. I have tried disabling/ re-enabling the patch, and tried loading a previously saved point before the suspect items happened. I have not had a problem since I started the game with the mod (114 hours in, thanks Steam hour counter!)

 

UPDATE: All books, scrolls and letters can be read from inventory EXCEPT the Great Houses "guide" books (Yellow book, red book, etc.) I can only read them by dropping the book(s) on the ground and reading it.
