If the marketing is done right there will be a big chance that it will be a movie that does well, people tend to like movies with historical battles in them. Okay, TES aint historic, but you get my drift, the swords, the everything would be great. Doom wasn't doing well because people didn't really think it would be cool, me neither. And the whole plot of no gates of hell opening spoiled the movie for me. And I mean come on, The Rock, seriously....

A new TES movie could have some epic battles & great fighting like other successful movies but it would get a stigma when it was found out that’s it is based off of a video game.

How many copies of Hitman were sold before they made the movie? The popularity of TES V will probably be a major factor in deciding if the TES movie is fiscally viable yet.

Has Hitman made a profit yet? If so how much?
Is it possible for a good money making movie to be made based on TES, YES, is it probable?
As much as I would like it to be I have to face reality & say NO.

Doom, one of the world's most popular games. However, when I got to the theater, I saw two other people besides my dad and me. Four people in total went to Doom opening day, Doom! Just imagine what TES would be like...admittedly, that's not too hard. It would be two, just my dad and me.
In conclusion, game companies make movies so they can make money, and TES won't make money. In fact, TES would probably produce a net loss.

Maybe the SciFi channel could make something decent.

Marketing is almost always done to the best of it's potential, yet video game movies almost always fail. Why? Two reasons:
The fans of the games are reluctant to go because all previous video game to movie adaptions have all butchered the game. Have you ever seen Super Mario Bros.? That's a movie I wish I had never seen. That is probably the worst example of a video game based movie ever, and the gamers fear that that will happen to their game.
Other people are reluctant to go on two accounts. One, they fear they might not understand the plot, characters, themes, etc. that the gamers would inherently know. Two, they have a prejudice against video games resulting in an outright boycott of the film.

That's just an outright lie. Everyone has very different tastes. You can't generalise everyone into the, "Like movies with swords" category. Not only is everyone different, but the movies in that category are different. The only person who would fit into that category, regardless, would be Fighter from Nuklear Power, and he's just a made up character.

Actually, people generally thought the exact opposite. They thought Doom would break from the usual path of video game movies sucking and be great. Most people (who cared) had the idea that Doom would be a wonderful film. They were wrong, of course, but that's still what they thought. And I actually thought that The Rock was one of the better parts of the movie. My only real disappointment (aside from there being no hellgates) with that movie was that there was no Cyberdemon.

No. No they won't. You don't seem to understand what the word 'probably' means. It implies that there is not only a change of something happening, the odds of it happening are quite high.

Well, that's exactly what I think, and I presumptuously think I know the meaning of the word. I'm not saying they will start doing that tomorrow or next week, but I think it could be in five years.

My opinion is that they'll continue to move game mechanics towards something more popular and action-console oriented to further enlarge fan base. So, basically, TES V could suck.

It is true, all movies taken from videogames sucked and probably this would, too. But marketing is able to make miracles. For example, why Narnia, a fantasy movie, has been such a succesful movie is a mistery to me, I don't remember having seen the book before the movie. Yet, it earned a lot of cash, and they already made a sequel if I'm not wrong.

Of course I could be very wrong about it all, but that's my opinion.

What is really sure is that marketing is moving all the economy, be it food, drinks, movies, books, cars, music, clothing, shoes... Brand and marketing = money $$$.

The reason the Narnia books are doing so well as movies is that they have such a large fan base. Millions of children read them, or have them read to them by adults. They are a beloved children's classic.

TES, on the other hand? Not so much. Even Doom, which arguably has a much larger fan base than TES, sucked in the money department, as Ninja pointed out.

TES gamers are a relatively small group. Even if the majority of people who play TES came out and saw the movie (which I seriously doubt will happen, due to the fact that many dislike the way a TES movie would be made), it'd probably do much worse at the box-office than Doom.

Just my opinion. I don't mean any disrespect, by the way. You are perfectly entitled to have your own opinion.

Yes, never heard this name before the movie came out. Probably it's because I couldn't care less about a fantasy blockbuster for children. Even Harry Potter alone was just too much for me.

Again, TES has too small of an audience for a TES movie to make any impact whatsoever. Even the Super Mario Bros. movie, with Mario being the sole most popular character in video game history, went unnoticed. The only reason I found it was by pure chance. If no one knows about Mario, how do you expect any one to give a rat's ass about TES? Especially considering TES would have to be simplified so others could, potentially, watch it. It would be so simplified, that it'd probably even go against TES lore. Also, there's the fact that Bethesda doesn't have millions of dollars just sitting around. Nowadays, a small movie budget is still a couple million.

You're calling me incompetent when you're blindly trusting Wikipedia despite not actually knowing anything about the subject? Wikipedia may be correct most of the time, but that doesn't mean you can turn yourself into a sheep. Unless you actually know what your talking about, you shouldn't say anything. Of course, that won't stop the ignorant, but I can still try. See, I have read the books, and they're not aimed at children. I'd say teenager, at the very youngest.

Hey Ninja I’ve agreed with everything you’ve written about the movie & the Chronicles Of Narnia, but I think they still have the right to state their opinion. I don’t want anyone to get mad at me for this OK, but sometimes you just have to allow people to be wrong without tearing into them.

BTW What about a made for TV Movie? Like I mentioned earlier, air it on the SciFi channel or something like that.
