As for the Blades, as much as i hate Delphine and Esbern for thier traditionalist, narrow sighted Dragon-Hate, the Blades usually did a much better job than the new guys...

Except Caius Cosades, and the rest of The Blades, failure to realize that The Mythic Dawn played them, and the Nerevarine, into getting rid of The Heart of Lorkhan so Dagon could appear. That and their failure to stop MANY assassinations of kings and various world dooming events.


The blades were terrible with a very poor track record.

How did getting rid of the Heart of Lorkhan have anything to do with Dagon? And how was Cosades a representation of how poorly the Blades did? I agree that the Blades were, at best, a mediocre secre-service type organization, but in each case where they fail, it is because of subterfuge and secrecy on the part of their enemy. The Pentium not only KNEW you were comming, but failed to stop the assassination of the Emperor. Twice. In like a week.

Though through long eras the chimerical landgods have subverted Divine rule, their protection of the First Stone should have remained as it was: the ironic protection of our enemies to our Enemy."


The Heart of Lorkhan was the divine stone that powered Red-Tower, the tower that stabilized Mundus, the mortal realm, and prevented Dagon from entering. the fall of Red-Tower was not only instrumental in allowing Dagon access to Mundus but it was also one of the key reasons Alduin returned. The instability caused by its shackles being removed was sign for Alduin to eat the current Kalpa so Akatosh could begin the next.

Dammit... I really should make a decision to commit the Library to memory... Who needs to study the histroy of Imperial Britain anyway.

Still, i think having a penchant for being coersed and tricked by external forces does not equate to being 'failures' more than failing to do something which you not only know about, but have plenty of time to prepare for. By and large, the Blades succeed, even if they succeed at the goals of another.

Well we also have to take into account that when you meet Titus Mede he specifically says "I told them the DB couldn't be stopped" or w/e.

Titus Mede knew his death was coming, that no matter what he did the DB would track him to kill him, and frankly he knew he NEEDED to die to save The Empire. He probably sabotages his own defense to let you kill him.

Thats a distinct possibility. Still, if you're going to take that into account, you also have to take into account that the Dark Brotherhood is a shadow of its former self. The Blades failed to stop the assassination of Uriel VII when the Mythic Dawn was at its height. The Pentium failed to stop a downtrodden, brow beaten group of missfits with a penchant for murder.

The DB are blessed by Sithis, the state of their group really isn't that much of a detriment when you have LORKHAN on your side.

The Emperor has a dragonborn lineage does not mean that all dragonborns are Emperors.
