That rumour sounds convincing for all those that don't believe in Santa Claus anymore.
The intellectuals call it the parousia of the announced - the delay of the coming *lol*

More probably they're either going to release another heavily bugged product, or postpone its release again.

Well...I am playing the beta of the patch...no bugs so far and a nice performance increase. From others I have heard the same. So I am not quite sure your statement makes sense.
Or are you referring to the CK ? As for that, it seems to be impossible to make any statement about wether it will be bugged or not so I am also not quite sure wether you are right there.

I'm having a mixed bag with the new beta's my mouse pointer UI issues seem worse but many of the game play problems are working much better.
I am seeing an sad and massive increase in flame wars between users and dev's even user to user over whether a patch is good or bad. And not just here, anyone with a smartphone just look though the reviews whenever an app. has an update (yes some to get truly broken then fixed later).
While I still think its not so much hardware alone but peoples software setup other then the game. I.E. drivers, codex's, windows tweaks, any number of programs or services to support other installed software and peripherals, so on and so forth, That causes a good number of performance and CTD issues due to the more complex a program is the more vulnerable it is to background processes.
The other thing that's not just the dev's fault is that in many places where the software distributor and manager like Steam or the Android market makes it very hard to "roll back" to an version that worked for you weather its by forced or nagging updates.

I'm getting CTDs for the first time with beta patch 1.4.20. However, the game runs & loads a lot faster with the patch, so I can live with that. Might be oddities in mods as well.

I'm not so sure if is the patch itself to blame for the CTDs, sadly I have not had enough time to play it vanilla, least yet long enough for one those nomblessed random ctds to whiten one more of my hair threads.

My prediction for when the CK will be out is January 31st. No, it has nothing to do with it being the last day of the month. It's because it's a Tuesday and, as most of you know, that is the day that Wal-Mart threw severe tantrums to get recognized as the standard release date for everything. So, in accordance with the Grand Poobah's wishes, I predict Tuesday. Cause who would want to go against the wishes of the all powerful Wal-Mart? Oh, wait... Dreamworks would and has. For shame, Dreamworks. For shame. :P
