@moho25:
2. Steam Workshop:
Promise to users - easy access to mods, verified "serious" content
Promise to modders - upload your stuff, and if you are popular, you might even get paid.
The dark side: read their licensing terms, basically as soon as you upload your mod, everything in it will be free game for Valve (they can use it, alter it, commercialize it, and you cannot do anything about it).

Awesome. So, you might get paid, but you essentially lose any say in your intellectual property?

Doesn't that sound like fun.

Something tells me that the mod creators aren't very excited about that.

Hey everyone,

Modders have ALWAYS found a way around things that don't work, or fix them. Keep on supporting the Nexus and besides, adding mods in this game is still manageable by Nexus thus you won't have to upload to Steam at all (considering the structure of the files and how the game uses them - it won't be much of a problem). The construction kit might be for building, but I'm pretty sure it isn't the only tool modders can use. It bothers me that they are going to be using Steamworkshop, but that's a decision they are entitled to. Whether it will ultimately please all of us fans, well that will have to wait. I'd reserve judgements and continue coming here for all my modding needs anyway :D

...You f***ing kidding me? This is the type of s*** tons of people have seen coming a mile away with steams previous bull s***.. that should be illegal though.. I mean if the person worked their ass off for it then get ripped off for some big company to use and not pay you.. I would sue em..

I have to ask, what will steam be doing about ripped content? the nexus removes that kind of stuff immediately, but steam...I'm not so sure...

That's great and all but can we please fix the bug with the battle music never stopping after Battle for Whiterun (Stormcloak)?

Can't wait for the kit to come out! Not so much anxious for the update, but it will be nice to see some fixes with some of the crashing issues. As for Steam, f*ck 'em. I may not be a modder at current, but I do plan on learning the creation kit as well as I can to become one. And if I do make any mods worth sharing, I think I'll just keep it on Nexus. I've never liked Steam, and I probably never will.

If mods on steam are made purchaseable, will that mean that uploading them here would be illegal? Even if I am the mod creator, I can guarantee that the liscense agreement would probably force singular steam distribution on my part and penalize me for uploading my content both for money and for free. Now I dont have an opinion of steam/valve one way or the other, but it seems to be that all of the individuals that are afraid of steam killing the modding community should just use the mods that are uploaded here. I might be unaware of the full issue and might be offering a grossly simplistic solution, but thats what I think.

Great news Zalidar, as always^^.

I am the neutral party, please dont hate me, because I dont hate you^^/.

Well I'm going to take a wait and see stance. I want mods, there are plenty that look cool and would add gameplay value in my mind. But I don't want to deal with copy/paste into data folders, .ini, .esp files and such. i want to click what I want and hit "play" and have it all work. If that is what the "workshop" can deliver, then it could be pretty cool.

Bethesda and BioWare are big on the modding community and I can't imagine them allowing Steam/Valve to do anything that will mess with that group. The PC market place for big time RPG's (MMO's excluded) is a very loyal and fickle group. Bethesda knows it would be PC suicide to hurt the modders and drive a wedge in the community. Put some faith in the guys that have openly and whole heartedly supported modders and modding this far. Let's give them the benefit of the daubt for now. If they hurt that trust or screw people over, they will hurt themselve more in the long run. RPGers, we are a very smart and unforgiving lot! Don't give us a reason to hunt you down with pitch forks and torches....because we will! They know this and I really think this is a bit of knee jerk reaction.

If I end up wrong and Steam/Valve and Bethesda end up screwing over modders and just wiping the "free lance" modding community away, I'll be the first to say I was wrong and then i'll never buy their product again. Along with so many others it will be a black eye and financial hit they would have a hard time recovering from.

All I can say is "It"s about time".
By now, I've beaten the game 5 times already, I certainly hope this time it's the real deal.
On the other hand, I'm still anxious about this whole Steamwork shop thing... I don't think anything good will come of it.
