Yourself or a role?

Personally I play mine from a Roleplayers Perspective.
My character Mannfred Nacht is a villain. He's a vampire and has been since day 4 (would have been day one if it didn't take three days after contracting Porphyric Hemophilia to turn). He's the kind of guy who would slaughter a whole family line to avenge a verbal slight from an estranged uncle twice removed. At one point he poisoned every guard in the Imperial city just because he was bored.
If Martin Septim hadn't ascended, Mannfred would probably have killed him just for the notariety.
Here's what Mannfred looks like.

The only exception to this is when I play KOTOR. Then I role-play.

I have never thought to do that, I have a Paladin save and all I did was wipe out vampires and general holy type actions. Then I decided to do the arena, took no time but I did the orc's mission and he wouldn't fight me. I killed him the went to bed and Lucien showed up... Good Idea.I try and make my character's decisions the same as mine really, but I do occasionally like to roleplay, usually as a hero. But being dark can be very fun, The Dark Brotherhood is extremely good fun - on my main, I killed Lucien LaChance though, because in reality, I would never affiliate myself with them.
Right now I'm playing as a blind hunter (eye mod) infected with werewolf disease, stalk prey then transform and stalk humans. So generally my characters have nothing to do with me...

While Faivon was raised as a rich boy and starts from the alternative ship arrival mod with his adopted youngest sister Momo.
Wait, am I being off-topic here? Well anyway, I try being myself when I'm playing Faivon but try to suit with Fai and Momo's personality when I play them.
I could tell their stories if you want to... hehe

So Fai and Faivon arn't technically related to Momo are they?Well, I don't use a particular single character, infact I have three characters. Each of them has their own specialty like Fai is a stealth character, Faivon is a combat character and Momo is a magic character. They're all related though, Fai is younger sister of Faivon but they're separated since birth and Momo is adopted youngest sister of the three. Fai was raised as a thief in the slums and end up in jail thus the story starts from there

Do you use the companion mod then? I like it when people give stories to their characters.

Yeah, I have to use CM Companion mod to do some screenshooting and all~
So as you can see, Fai is like evil character because of her harsh life in jail and all the slums while Faivon live a life a rich boy who got a nice equipment from the very start with Momo and they're both searching for each other.
Fai mainly play Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood faction while Faivon and Momo plays Knight of The Nine, Fighters Guild and Main Quest and where would they finally meet? It's still a secret!

Cryus was a madman. He was a violent, cold-blooded killer. He was ruthless, and killed without pity or remorse. It was at this time that Lucien Lachance had approached him and invited him to join the Dark Brotherhood. He accepted without question. It was soon after he gained much favor with the Night Mother, that Lucien had suspected his home in Cheydinhal to house a betrayer. Cryus was instructed to kill his Dark Family, and no matter how dark they were, they were his brothers and his sisters, and he did not want to give them up. But he had no choice... and it was after a long journey that he became the Listener, the one who spoke to the Night Mother herself. (These events are basically the questline, and here comes one of the unique parts.)
Cryus was broken. His feelings and emotions were in disarray, and one night, which was as dark as the day he joined the brotherhood, he left without a trace. His bretheren looked everywhere for him, but he left nothing behind. Cryus had escaped into the wild. He had left society behind him. He was now alone, able to rest in solitude in the woods, amongst the beasts and animals that lived there.
Cryus had adopted the beasts of the woods as his new family, and slowly but surely, began to better himself. He had forsaken the title of Listener. He was now a new man. He was... the RANGER!

This is basically how I play Oblivion. It is like a large storybook, with more plot-twists and turns than you could imagine. My first character, Cryus, went from Assassin to Ranger. I had experience with roleplaying before. I used to do it all the time on Warcraft III, but not anymore. Well, basically, I make my character a certain way, and sort of put myself into his shoes. I, being a generally good-minded person, decided to make Cryus become good. Although I also made him into a warrior of Akatosh, which is a story I actually posted on fanfiction.net, under the name of "theonlyguywithoutabrain" (no spaces, no puncuation). Oh yeah, and incase you were wondering, I AM a writer.

My character has a long history. This is what he looks, officially, you already might know, because you see my avatar....
